You know the ones that think that the home machines do exactly the same job as the salon ones.

I had this today with a woman who thought she could teach me everything just because she watches the shopping channels.

Everybody gets clients like this and to be honest IMO its not their fault. They are constantly bing told through TV, commercials and shopping networks that they can have those 'salon results in the home'. Without technical knowledge about machines or detailed knowledge about products they dont know any difference and we cant expect them to know.

As a professional part of gaining and keeping your clientele is about showing them what they get from the professional treatments that they dont get from home treatments.

Some will get a little assy about it, but if you put your points across in a friendly way you can get around it. I find that by not outright disagreeing with them they tend to listen and never saying anything against where they buy their products. When they say they have found a way to do something, tell them thats great, but you do it this way because.....and they learn something.

Those that wont listen wont listen but the truth is if they really believed they could do it at home for nothing they would't be coming to you for a treatment ;) so you have already been victorious.

That's so true . . . deep down I think they know that they won't really get the miraculous results that some of these home use products promise to deliver, but they cling to the comfort blanket that maybe, just MAYBE, they will. A bit like trying to lose weight - really we all know that the only way is to cut the calories we take in and increase the calories we burn up. . . but we like to convince ourselves that the latest fad diet/food replacement/ slimming pills will work as if by magic.
Everyone likes a bargain, but there's no such thing as a free lunch. You get what you pay for, and luckily most clients realise this and that's why they come to you.

You will always get people like that. The main thing is to educate her without making her feel stupid. She obviously has an interest in beauty so you could include a bit of education or information with her treatments. Explain the benefits of the salon experience. That should make her a loyal customers for a long time ...
