Does anyone have a floatation facility in their salon?

I have a bit of an over-active mind and my current excitement is coming from my latest idea of getting a floatation room. Partly because I would love to be able to use it just whenever I like  and because I do think my clients would go for it.

Some, do any of you have a floatation pool / tank / room?

Or if not, have you had a floatation expereince and how did you find it?

Thanks in advance!

I have never had a wet flotation but have been on a dry flotation bed, it was so relaxing too. If I had one I would be on it all the time!
At around 15k though they are not cheap.

15k! I have been looking at floatation rooms that are about a third of that. But as soon as I can I am going to visit a spa equipment showroom rather than a supplier who just sells the one. I was originally thinking 'wet' but now am considering 'dry' too. Thanks for replying Julie x

I have had a dry flotation Zoe,and thouroughly reccommend it,we have one at Grayshott, and it feels like you are floating on a cloud:lol:....however i think it is at least 10 k to have one.

I have only ever had wet floatations at Nirvana Spa. Where you share the pool with others. Which to be honest has its drawbacks. So excited though! I think this is one of my millions of ideas that is actually going to go somewhere!

I absolutely LOVE dry floatation, its a shame my nearest one is a 30 minute drive away, I think if i had one nearer I would go for about an hour every 3-4 weeks or so! But yes they seem very pricey! I've never been in a wet floatation tank.

Where would ya put it?!

OK this is my idea... I would put it in my current beauty room as there is a shower and a loo. It doesn't need a huge space. And there would be nothing else in there except related stuff, and maybe a plant LOL.

I may need to address the number of windows in there and the decor. Other than that I need an extractor fan.

Then... my beauty room moves next door. So as you come in the door, floatation to the left, beauty room to the right.

I am working on smartening the place up too. Front garden landscaped. Driveway resurfaced but not planted up yet. Back garden needs landscaping but that will be done regardless of whether I go ahead with the floatation idea :)

I think there may be a bit of a lead time on the unit anyway, so I would have time to sort the detail out.

The one I'm looking at is a self contained fibreglass unit, with a footprint of roughly 2.4m x 1.3m. Think it is bespoke but height will be ceiling height.

Where I used to work we had 2 dry flotation units - AMAZING!! We would pop there on our lunch break if it was free was so lovely! We used to do foot massages while people were on the bed - I had one once it was pure BLISS!

I'm off to google these as I don't know what they entail. Sounds exciting though!

had a dry float in the salon i used to work at never ever got used!! we used to give free trials to coax people into having the full experience but it never took off we just used to lie on it during breaks and stuff an expensive staff room if you ask me!!

the treatments were amazing tho the training lady did a mud one on me another woman had the goats milk and another the seaweed! and drifting asleep for 10 mins in that felt like an hour!! shame it didnt take off!

Had a long chat with a company about their product last night then this morning returned to the original information only to discover I had totally misunderstood the pricing and yes, it is much more in the region of 15k as Julie said :(

Undeterred! But need to maybe take the decision a little more seriously

I think floatation tanks - dry and wet - are fab but I would only really invest in one if I was charging high end prices. A big investment with no real guarantee that your clientelle will go for it.

Oh I could do with a wrap and a dry float now - bliss!:)

I really want it so I can use it myself whenever the mood takes me

Hi,
I was thinking of this idea myself!
I've been in contact with a few suppliers and i have done quite a bit of research.
It is expensive to set up but is quite quick to make your money back once people know what it involves and the benefits.
I want to incorporate massage with mine when i do it so that is my next course!
There is an amazing book that i would recommend called "Book of Floating:Explore the private sea" by Michael Hutchison that explains everything!
Go for it and good luck Chick! ;-) x

I have never heard of this before. Do you have a treatment then hop in there for a little while.

Yes, I'm going to get that book. The lady I've been speaking to says she incorporates massage, I would imagine you do the massage first, then they get in the water. Otherwise they'd have wet hair. Although I will speak to her about how it works, combining treatments.

My bf is not happy about me taking another room in the house (my house!) for my business

So that my be my biggest hurdle

For a wet floatation I think yes. However, only certain treatments would be suitable. For instance I wouldn't want to do a facial, then the client gets in the pool, then has a shower, because I'd like the facial products to stay on the skin.

For a dry floatation, I think you can carry out treatments while they are on it. And you can incorporate treatments such as body wraps.Sounds nice.

It would be very tricky Zoe to carry out a treatment on a dry flotation bed as it is like lying on a water bed. What I would is body scrub then massage then flotation tank - a lovely combination or wrap massage flotation. HTH

I've been on a dry flotation bed and totally loved it. The only thing that spoilt the whole experience was a window open and hearing passing conversations from people in the street below. So I wouldn't worry about too many windows in the room

.x. :)
