A local technician is off ill and a lot of her customers are coming to me for rebalance. Great happy to help, but these nails are so thick! 1st lady said i'me a nail biter so they are thick to keep them on, 2nd "oh i'me really heavy handed thats why" 3rd "Oh its the job i do". This tech obviously works this way but i was tought thin and natural, am I wrong? Not knocking other tech just said mine will be different as I don't work the same way.

Well if it were me, I'd try to do what the other tek does even if it goes against the grain.

These ladies obviously like the nails the way they are, and if they go off and break one of your thinner nails, they will blame it on you. :!:

I would just rebalance her work and be gracious toward them.. have them leave happy and take the extra income you have scored.. i would also reach out to the ill NT and have a convo about how you are happy to help..
everyone has different styles.. and different application methods.. im sure that this woman is gratefull you are their to take the pressure off.. my clients would go bonkers without me..

But Gigi, They look horrible! I would not be happy to say they came from my salon.

You can always make them look better even if they are thicker than you normally do them. I just would not go too radiacally different on the thinness-

are they coming to you because the other tech has asked you to cover or do you not know her.
if the work is that bad and you do a good job by giving then lovely nails then they will be happy (the most important thing) and then they may even come to you in the future.

I would just rebalance them as you would any other client and as said they might decide to come to you instead of the other tech.
Just do your best:hug:

No I don't know her. I'me not disin (lol) her work, just explain mine are not the same. I really am happy to help and really don't mind them going back, but obviously I want them to be happy. However when they leave my salon the are representing my business and abilities.

Then I think the answer has to be do what you would normally do.

Tell the new ladies that this is how you do things....

They will either be surprisingly happy or they will prefer the thicker nails...

Do you not take into consideration the lifestyle of your clients?
Not being funny with you...I just wondered if the other nail tech maybe has done these nails this way because the ladies asked her to...due to their lifestyles etc...

I prefer a really thin sleeker nail....but I have a client who likes a thicker nail... her choice, her money.... so it isn't my style but that is what she wants... Now if she was to go to another nail tech they would probably wonder where on earth she got her nails done...!!!!

You can only do what you feel comfortable with at the end of the day...and I guess we all work differently

I'd just do them, then over a period of time thin them down, bit by bit ....
but remember, they may actually be heavy handed, some clients can be very rough on their nails.

I have taken all your advise on board Thank You
But am i mistaken i was sure i was tought and have read acryic does not need to be thick to be strong. Sure I can pull out many an article in screatch etc.

Acrylic does not need to be applied thick. to be strong ....but some clients do ask for them to be thick....why ......they think they will last longer..

If you feel uncomfortable with doing them thick..tell them you want to do then thinner.....if they say "i want them like the other tech does them"....just do it there way....

Some clients you can tell and they will listen....others just want to have what they think is right and at the end of they day....they are the ones paying !!...hth xx

This is exactly what I would do. I would rebalance pretty much as they are, maybe a tad thinner, and then if they return to you (they may not, once their usual tech is better) then you can thin them a bit more still next time. Certainly if yours break they will draw their own conclusions, rightly or wrongly.

Yes, without a doubt nails don't have to be thick to be strong BUT there's no way I would go from thick to thin just like that.

Thank you everyone for your advise I work on my own so this site is a great help:hug:

hi, i was at a training course and when i came back my nails were really thin but then my regulars nails were breaking so they had to get thickened up again! my nails dont look thick though - thin at cuticle and free edge, just slightly more so at apex, the longer the nail the thicker this will be but when viewed from side it should all taper. if this other girls are 'clubby' all over, thin then out at cuticle and f edge and just refine the shape so they look better! if you do a good job you might get some new clients!
