Door to door sales & Flaming Leaflets

:irked: well peeved off tonight! Just put baby down and someone knocked on the door, its 7pm and its dark and I am alone so I don't like opening the door. He knocks again louder - baby wakes up! I opened the door and its a guy selling milk! I went ape at him, I mean who sells at 7pm?

Also went crazy at a charity on saturday. Every week I get 4-5 requests for my unwanted items. Now I live in a poor area and not only that how many times do they want me to donate and more to the point how much would I have left if I did! I told the guy to come in and take what he likes. He looked at me and asked 'really' so I bit his head off and told him if I wanted to donate I would call him!

Now I feel really guilty. After all there only trying to get business especially when thinks are tough. Point is I would probably buy milk from the milkman had he called at a reasonable time during day light and not been so damned impatient!

What your views on this - I don't mean should I have been horrible cause I shouldnt and I want to apologise.

But should people come knocking on your door so late? Is 7pm Late?

I think by law they can come up to 8pm. Thing is though - 8pm in summer is totally different to 8pm in winter.

I don't think 7 o'clock is late per se but I don't think I'd be too chuffed at someone calling at that time.

Anway I probably wouldn't answer cos I'd be getting my girls sorted for bed.

we live in a quiet nice suburb but!!! i swear this is the truth we get at least 3 leaflets a day for takeaways put through our door pizza curries chineese burgers ect now me n Mrs Nouvatan love a takeaway but our waist lines dont i was starting to think someone was taking the mickey when we first moved in i am a little larger than average and i thought i was being delibarately targetted!! the thing is the shops they advertise are miles away from here and they post them at all times even at 9 30 at night and the dogs go mental when they post anything :irked:

What drives me mad is recorded phone messages. You can guarantee I will be in the shower, phone rings and I nearly break my neck to get it. I answer and it isn't even a person. It's a blinkin' recorded message trying to sell me something.

And don't get me started on double glazing! :lol:

I think I would have possibly skinned them alive if they woke my baby.

I get a lot of door to door sales at work...had someone trying to sell me rubber mats for the salon, I said no I didn't want one and it was like "WHY NOT??"

I am never in on Halloween!Take the kiddies out then come back really late. What peeves me is the kids that:

a) come two weeks prior to Halloween. Won't put here what I say to them lol!
b) the kids that don't make an effort - coming as yourself in a hoody does not count - ok you face may always look like its been run over, and that acne should be looked at but come on at least make a flaming effort!!
c) the kids that stand there like 'is that it?'

:lol::lol: he may have come at that time trying to catch people who work full time at home...i guess he thought most people work till 6..home by 7...i don't like cold callers...i have to admit i do get annoyed. I always end up saying..."Tesco don't knock my door asking if I want bananas !!".....if i want something i will go seek it.

omg u lot are so..so...(cant think of the word!) ...oh hang on....your a bunch of victor meldrews! lol I dont think 7 oclock is late at all....if it were after 9 pm then I would be annoyed and I would tell them....the trouble is everybody has different routines and ideas on whats acceptable or not...some have babies/young kids...babies/young kids sleep in the day too...how is the milkman supposed to know your routines! some people work nights and sleep in the day...they dont want disturbing either...again how is the milkman supposed to know!
Honestly 7 oclock is hardly late is it...early evening...if you worry about answering the door because its dark and your on your own etc then I would shout to them through the door to come to the front window and I would talk to them through that! (which I have done before :lol

HALLOWEEN!! a few years back when i lived oop north i had a trick or treater come to the door now this wasnt a little cute kid with a pumpkin mask it was a teenage chavvy and his mates demanding money!! or they would do something nasty i basically told them to p""ss off
A few mins later the dog is going mental ( bonnie my stafford softest dog i have ever owned but she looked evil!! loved kids and always wanted to play) they had set fire to my work boots that were outside the front door!!
I opened the door and let the dog go !! Now in the dogs mind it was time to play with the kids!! she would of licked em to death
but to the chavvys a half eared scarred brindle slathering monster with huge teeth was after there bottys !! once they got to the end of the street i called her back stamped on my boots burned my feet ect and thought that was the end of the matter
FOR THE NEXT WEEK THE DOOR NEVER STOPPED WITH TRICK OR TREATERS!! and I greated them all with the dog held by the collar growling and the obligatary P"SS OFF

one kid who knocked on my door i knew as he was a member of my fishing club and lived 2 miles away from me I asked him why he had walked all the way through some of the worst parts of manchester at this time of night to knock my door!! the answer astonished me
at school JIMMY MASKELL the 1st kid to call who set fire to my boots!! and who i later found out had wet himself as he run away with bonnie at his heels :lol:
had put a notice up with my address telling all the kids in school that i gave him and his mates a fiver each!!! :irked::irked: kids dont you just love em!!

YES i totally agree it is late i had someone from british gas knock on my door this sunday around 7/8 pm. i said to him thats its sunday and its late and if i was interested i would call. this is the second time the same man has knocked.
no they may not know you have children, or an elderly person lives there but it should be taken into account. really should not knock after 6pm. this reasonable for anyone elderly, single parents etc.

i get around 4-10 advertisements in my door everyday and the same ones.. if im close to the door i open it and throw it back at them.. (yes im horrible but how many do i need)...
i get calls selling stuff at 8am to about 9pm so i had to get caller id to ignore the numbers i dont know..

dont even get me started on the automated messages...:smack:

If it bothers you that much why don't you get one of those No Cold Calling stickers, I think you can get them from your local police.

Not on a pink cloud then! I don't think think 7 is late but I do understand. If you are upset by this I would get a sticker from the police and add to that no leaflets.

No one would pay attention. Its soooo dark here you can't see so well and if I stuck one on - it would be ignored and I would look about 90!

My last house did have one - never stopped anyone. It had been left on from previous owners and I never moved it.

Cold callers don't bother me per se, nor do leaftets, but I thought to do both the council had to give permission and 4-5 charity requests a week is a joke. A little common sense with these people would go far.

See if the milkman had put a leaflet through the door I would have looked at it and perhaps considered it. The fact he knocked on loudly at 7pm got my back up. Oh well, I don't feel quite so guilty today - back to my cloud lol! x

Get an outside light and a peep hole thingy (don't know the name) put in your door. These things are not expensive and worth the extra expense for the extra security.

Don't answer the door if you don't know who it is. Put a sign beware of the rottweiler on the gate or somewhere where it is easily seen. Yes it does work with strangers. lol

I too hate halloween. I'll open the door between 6 and & 7:30 cos thats when the little kids are out and in their costumes. After that it is all hoodies. One group kept bugging us last year so my brother opened his bedroom window and threw a bowl of water over them. They left.

As for cold calling..what a pain in the backside. Does anybody buy from them? Our entire village was given bright yellow GO AWAY stickers and everyone has them so they've had to back off.

Automated phone calls drive me crazy, but if you can actually get hold of a real person and tell them to remove your name and number from their list, they are legally obliged and cannot call you again.
