Hi girls and boys :)

I actually have 2 questions so I thought it might be good to double up in one post to prevent too much clutter :green:

Q.1 Have any of your customers wanted to train as a nail tech and if so, did they tell you, and how did you feel when either she told you or you found out?

Because I'm feeling guilty about asking my tech to remove my acrylics instead of rebalancing next time. I do have a valid excuse though as I have a lot of wedding jewellery and school fayre jewellery to make up over the next month and because it's wirework a) I can't wrap wire with nails on and b) if I did attempt to wire wrap with nails, they would get wrecked!

Q.2 If you have a customer and the tips you have don't quite fit (just too big/small), which one would you go with?

I only ask Q.2 because I've got a couple of nails that are showing my natural nails at the sides because they are growing up so I wondered if she (my tech) had used smaller tips and squidged (is that a technical term, lol!) them on. I think if it was me, I would put a larger tip on and file the side wall of it, but then I'm not even trained yet, so what do I know :green:

Thanks in advance peeps

Hiya - can't answer question number 1 as haven't been qualified for very long. However - I did ask my last nail tech (had been a year prob since i last saw her) for her advice when I wanted to train and she was very helpful with how much it cost her etc. I would hope to be as helpful as her if the situation arose.

Q2 - I would always choose the larger size and file the side walls down. There's no reason to choose the smaller size, unless you aren't sure about tip sizing - or if you ran out of the correct size and used the other one in an emergency!

I'm guessing you want to train in nails? Good luck if you do - you won't regret it! :) Linds x

Hi Sarah,
Well I told my Tech that I was thinking of taking up training, and she was all for it, she really encouraged me, I still go and see her to let her know how I'm getting on, she is really happy for me.

As for your other question I am with you I would put on larger tips and file the side walls down

Thanks girls :)

I'm not 100% certain, but I think my tech is soon going back 'home' to Hull once her daughter completes her exams at school, so I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be treading on her toes as it were anyway. It's only because I mentioned a few appointments ago that I'd love to do something like this (nails - I knew I was going to be doing it anyhow, was just testing the water) and she just said, oh would ya? and carried on with my nails as if I'd said nothing.

I just didn't like to think she would think I would try to take any custom from her. Thinking about it, I wouldn't anyway, she's got 7 years on me, lol!

Thanks again

When i think back now I must have sounded so disrespectful but I didn't realise back then what i was saying was wrong....I rang my old tech and asked if she could get me some gels so i could do my own nails !!!

She was lovely about it and just explained that I needed to be trained...so I did.

Since then i have had 3 clients turn nail techs....there is enough out there for everyone and i have supported them as best I can.

Thanks Bagpuss :)

I think I will tell her next time when I have my nails removed. I hope (I know) I'll be as supportive as I can be if the time comes when (if) one of my clients decides she wants to become a tech too, cos that's just the kinda gal I am ;-)

I had a client ask about training and I was so glad to see someone as excited about the industry as me, we sat and chatted all the way through the treatment about nails, its ace to have someone so interested!! I gave them some of the brochures I have and said to contact them direct for up to date info. I love it if I inspire someone

you actually don't have to justify... you ask her to take the product off and that's all, you thank her for the good times and when she asks when you come back you simply tell her that you successfully qualified and will then do them on your own...
you can even tell her before, and say stuff like *I loved to see you working on my hands and you made me wanna qualify, so I hae my training/exam/whatever next day/month/week...

I mean it's fine... I've had a model telling me that and we still keep in touch and go to trainings together now!!

as for tips, I use forms so it's never a big deal ;);)
