Ok... so the Habia Code of Practice says, no eating or drinking at the nail station. Do you serve tea and coffee etc to your clients at your station?

We have only a small nail salon with no seperate staff room, just toilet facilities. So nowhere to prepare tea/coffe etc.

I do want to offer tea/coffee and some clients even ask for one, but when I explain the circumstances (Health & Safety etc), they understand.

Is there a way round it, without compromising standards, but giving that something extra to the client?

What do you all do?

I personally dont offer drinks, but i dont do nails. I would sugest maybe have plastic cups and offer juice or something and have a table near the nail station for the client to put their drink on?x

we couldent give coffee or tea to clients at college while training but they were allowed plastic cups of water :hug:due to health and safety rule of the college

I have a small home salon and I do offer drinks.

If I am doing gels or a mani I always put the drink just behind them on the windowsill and explain that it cannot go on the nail desk.

If I am doing a mani and a pedi I offer a drink between the two. HTH

I'm probably going to get shot for this but yes I do offer my clients a cup of tea/coffee.
I'm lucky that I have a seperate area to prepare drinks away from the main salon.
Not many do take up on the offer but the few that do really appreciate it.
They have their cuppa while I'm filling in consulation sheet and before i start work the cup is removed (they have to drink fast )
I don't allow eating in the salon though...a few have tried to bring their lunch in to eat whilst they are having their treatment and I've had to say no to that, but after explaining H&S most do understand and don't ask again.
The worst thing I've had was someone wanting eat their kebab (oh the smell!!) and I had to ask them to go outside.
xx:hug:xx

Oh my lord can you imagine???? eugh, I dont even like those things when I'm drunk!!!

I do serve drinks. My nail station consists of 2 separate surfaces, one for performing the treatment from, so I ask them to put their cups on the other one. They get their drink at the start of the service, they can drink during prep, but when it gets to product application and filing I explain that I need to move the cups away now for h&s. Whether they have drunk up or not they understand.

One thought occurred to me. Even though I use heat dry topcoat, most of my clients like to sit in the waiting area afterwards until they feel confident that their nails are dry. Perhaps this is the best time to offer a drink??

Yes.

Have to say having a home salon I do offer drinks & just make sure that they aren't placed where they will be knocked over etc..... It makes it more of a relaxed environment I think also when you've been sat there for 45mins or so chances are they will be getting thirsty and so an offer of a drink is always appreciated!! :)

Yes I do offer drinks in my home salon!
Ive got those cups with lids on like the ones you get in Starbucks or the like, if they want a hot drink, or Ive got bottles of water in my fridge, water is popular!

If Im doing a Spa Pedi or Mani, then I offer Herbal and Green Teas, and serve them in a beautiful cup and saucer! :green:

ooh great topic, seeing as im normally mobile its not an issue for me, but when we move i hope to set up a home salon and was wondering about using my tassimo coffee pod thingy in the salon and having bottled water, never thought about not having on the nail desk,

cos whn i do nails at my house i have another table at the side of my nails desk, and could ask them to put their drink on their, but will make sure they have finished it or moved it before i start application

thanks for bringing this up
xx

....just rang s/s for you and nope sorry..

I use glass coasters,
make the drinks and explain that if they keep the coaster on top of the cup in between drinking their tea or coffee it will keep the dust and odours out of their drink hth
love the idea of the disposable cups with lids Hayls, can i ask where do you buy these from ?

in my one venue I have a chair, a small table and a decanter with water and a glass that is the lid. I have disposable cones for them to drink out of. Not many take up the offer but its handy for when they do.

In my newest venue I haven't got any drinks facilities, but a few have asked for a drink of water.
I was considering getting a tray of bottled waters from aldi and having them in a bowl in the waiting area.

I have a senseo coffee pod machine for myself but could set that up in the waiting area. but then you have to consider sugar and milk, etc. would prefer to offer herbal teas but would need a kettle.

Thanks hun

Thanks Hayls, thats a good idea...and that is ok with H&E is it?

So where does everyone store tea/coffe milk etc, and where do you prepare it?, bearing in mind its not a home salon and I do not have a seperate room.

I love the idea of the pod machines, but apparently the smell is extremely strong. Aroma of coffee mixed with lovely products em......??

Coffee and monomer....my two favourite smells
Not sure that it would work as a duel plug in airfreshener though :lol:
I'ts hard to say where you could put your drink making stuff without seeing the salon.
Is it possible for you to section a safe area to do this?

Hi,
The only time i offer drinks is if its a very hot day and they have a glass of water or juice in the waiting area... never at my desk and never at the end of the service...I dont offer drinks for a few reasons .. first HS but also if i have just finished a polish or nail art i think the worst thing you can do is offer a drink it gives them open licence to smudge and blame it on you... thus having to redo varnish etc .. at my expense... H x
