Well lets hope it stays open and we can have a adult conversation on the subject..:green:

Now come on! How do you expect it to remain grown up! We all know that its a matter of time before this thread gets hijacked and canned, so I personally am not even going to get started on this debate.

Please visit the group, we can discuss this subject without the thread being closed.

...you lot are so negative...your are all turning it bad before anything bad has even been said.....even I changed my first choice of link to help keep it more positive....

well bagpuss it happens EVERYTIME, so can you blame us?

Come on guy's lets see if we can give it a go..this is a worthwhile posting to respond to...someone has asked for help:hug:.

we are not here for internal politics..lets get down to what this site is all about....maybe those that dont wish to be constructive could just skip the thread and move onto something else and leave it to those with an objective veiw point to come forward....good or bad:hug:

I am sure we can all do this??? .

OK to keep the thread sane :green: I have a question for you all.

Now I nothing about ear candling but Ann made a comment in another thread which got me curious, about it being able to help hay fever - how does that work and would it help anyone?

well pure, the smoke can travel through the sinus cavities and the vapours help to cleanse.

So in a round about way would it also help with more general sinus conditions, and possibly respiratory problems like asthma?

can help with most ENT problems, I have rhinitis and I maintain it with the candles. its not 100% but maintains it at a level I can live with, much better than a steroid nasal spray x 4 a day.

So going back to the original question posted by Brown beauty... can anyone give an answer? I have been trained at two different workshops and each one said different... ie one said the waxing substance was ear wax ... the other said it was the contents from the candle.

Personally I feel its the contents from the candle.

I must say I have had some really positive results from Hopi candles and will continue using them, but I would just like to know the answer to the original question once and for all.

its the contents of the candles and how hard they have had to work, ie clear ears - easy for smoke to get to optimum temperature, treatment time approx 8-10 minutes per ear.

If the ear has blockages, the candle has to work harder to get to its optimum temperature, it burns slower so time is 10-15 minutes.

I personally believe its a bit of both, ie content plus the amount of ear wax in the ear.

I too was taught that the "bits" you see in the candle is residue from the candle. I do however, have a lot of clients who love having candles, and feel it brings them great relief from various sinus/headache problems. That I think, is a good thing:)

The residue is the candle and not wax or impurities.

What i was interested to see a day or so ago was someone mentioned they are doing i think it was an 10 week vtct course in it.Surely this gives it some credibility, worthy alongside other holistic therapies.
It will be nice to see if it can be discussed properly because if it is now being taught at this level in colleges we are going to have a lot of people asking for help and if everyone with any training and experience is afraid to offer that help then that will be a shame.
Now, im backing out because im not trained or qualified to answer this question,i am just one of those people that buy them and use them on myself, family and close friends (which i do not recommend, but being trained in other therapies i am aware of contraindications etc so give myself a bit of license).

I wonder if someone can tell me how they can affect the sinuses, etc.

As I work it out, as there is no connection from the outer ear/ear canal, the only way it could be is by affecting the pressure on the eardrum (by lowering it I would think because of the air being sucked up through the candle).

This would mean there would be air from the throat (or the contents of the eustacian (sp?) tube - perhaps mucous) being drawn into the middle ear. How can this affect the sinuses, nasal passages etc?

This is a genuine question, so please- sensible answers only!

hi ya, just thought id add that we had an ear, nose & throat specialist in to lecture at our college and he said that the yellow powder is loose residue or from the candle and the orange wax in the tube is the set in wax from the ear! xx
