hi ya

Has anyone attended the east London beauty academy as am thinking of doing a course there and cant seam to find any reviews on here? If not can anyone recomend a good college in london / essex for a mature student.

Also do you think intense course's are good or not as not quite sure how you would learn so much in such little time?

thanks

What sort of courses are you looking at doing? NVQ? short course etc?

hi ya

im looking at doing an nvq or itec course (not sure which one im better of doing) i would like to specialise in massage and electrical facial treatments.

I've got to be honest loads of people get confused about the itec. Me included. Someone who has this qualification would be the best one to tell you. I studied for my NVQ Level 2 and 3 at the London College of Beauty Therapy. In my opinion they were excellent, although there have been some mixed reviews on here. They have really good short courses as well. Take a look at their website www.lcbt.co.uk They were especially suited to mature students and people who want to take beauty seriously. Many of the people i studied with including myself were from our mid 20's up to 40. If you'd like to know anything about the course/college etc I'd be more than happy to pm you. Hth xx

Where abouts in East London is this college?
I went to Havering College - Ardleigh Green Campus in Hornchurch & highly recommend that college.
I personally dont think intense courses are great unless you already have qualified & doing additional add on treatments.
If you want to specialise in Massage & Electrical Facial you will need to do NVQ Level 2 & 3 or equivelant.

As someone who was working there I would advise you no steer clear from that place.

If you are really looking to learn, rather than to just obtain a certificate this is certainly not the place to go. All they care about is your payment. That's it.

They don't know what is in curriculum, what should you put in the portfolio, etc. There is no proper timetable set and you won't know when your assessment is and how are you going to be assessed. This is very disorganised place.

The lady who runs the college is a Beauty Therapist herself, she is also teaching certain courses, but since she doesn't feel that it is necessary to keep up-to-date with the times, you won't learn any new techniques.

I left because I didn't want to be associated with this. I was also pressurised into being the most speedy tutor, e.g. at some point they wanted to squeeze several untis into just one day (anatomy, theory and practice of manicure and pedicure). After such 'training' the students were expected to be able to perform proper service and get ready for exams, after finding just 3 models for practice.

I have done a lot of training in London with varied experiences :).

In my opinion London School of Beauty and Make-Up is great for Beauty Therapy and massage. For nails and lashes I would recommend Margarita Belska Nail and Beauty School.

Thanks - I will have a look as in still searching for the right course.
I found a level 2 I would love to do at Omni in Walton on Thames but it's a slog of a drive from Camden!! [emoji30]

Hiya, I've looked previously - it's very expensive and the course is very long for the amount of modules covered. I work full time and unfortunately I do not have the luxury in going part time.
I wish it were different.
So frustrating- it puts me off. Hence why I have delayed committing to anywhere for so long.
