Dont know how much it will help you but ive been on HRT 5 years and ive noticed an increase in dry skin and found i have to moisturise a hell of a lot more HTH

I don't know if I am typical but following surgery to remove my ovaries at the age of 38 I took HRT for 12 years.

My skin on my body just seem to age, it just looked 10 years older than it should have done for my age though this did not affect my face.

The dry skin is due to the menopause rather than the HRT. The reduction in oestrogen dries the skin increasing likelihood of wrinkles, reduces the number of capillaries in the skin giving a paler complexion & generally leads to fragile & less firm skin (due to the reduction in collagen & elastin production).

HRT should to some degree counter this by helping to 'fill out' the face as it thickens the skin & helps reduce the loss of the subcutaneous fat responsible for that drawn look. It also helps to minimise the drying effect that menopause has on the skin, as well as help maintain elasticity. However, it is worth bearing in mind that as the HRT is trying to counter what the body is trying to do the effect is limited somewhat, in the same way that HRT doesn't always eliminate menopausal symptoms but lessens them.

If you know the name of the product they are taking or the brand then log onto Medicines and type it into search. You can then read the patient infomation leaflet (the one you get inside the box when you have a prescription). Hope this helps.

I've been on HRT since i was 36 and i was so glad i was put on it .
As for side effects i haven't experianced any at all but the only thing ive noticed with being on the ones i am taking(Elleste duet)is little patches of dry skin on the elbows and have to slather on the moisturiser a heck of a lot more but it's not HRT that causes the effects of drying on the skin it is the reduction in oestrogen in the body and colagen and elastin.

Martin has said it ...it helps to slow it all down basically us youngsters getting old before our time and it benefits the skin by "filling it out"
