Hi guys

I had a client yesterday who had very bitten nails, and a very wide stumpy nail bed. I was close to telling her I couldn't do her enhancements until she had grown them up a little, but she fully understood that she may have problems with them.

I'm sure this has been done before but couldn't find any threads - any advice on how to make wide stumpy nail beds look attractive? She had pink polish, and the finished set didn't look too bad on the surface, but cos I did them short they just looked (to my mind) like elephant's feet! I know you can extend the nailbed using opaque powders/gels, but it was more the overall form of the nail being so wide and the length short, if that makes sense.

Would love to hear your tips for making this kind of client's nails look elegant x

Nails will only look long and slim if they are made long and slim ... if they are short, fat and wide you cannot make them long and slim. You can add length and then the best trick is to paint them leaving the sidewall margin a little wider to create the illusion of slimness. Can't correct everything hunni ... just enhance it to the best of your ability.

It's hard but mostly you have to keep them short , I find tapering them a bit at the sides, maybe a roundish shape , definetly not square ,

the normal rule is to follow the shape of the eponychium for a quite natral look , on some though this will be wide, flat then artistic licence is needed lol

there Is other things extending the nail beds with cover powders can give a longer nail bed look making the illution of longer slimed nails /fingers but you said she had polish so that's not much of a point so I'd consontrate on shape :)

Some nails it's just not possable to make look like the ones in the posters but try to rember insted of aiming for that aim to please the client :) I'm sure then you can't go wrong if she leaves with something better than she arrived with :)
