Hi - I am an employed beautician contracted for 40 hours per week.

My employer (salon owner) has started telling me to come in at different times when its quiet, for example I started at 1 pm yesterday instead of 9 am. This happens when its quiet but I am not paid.

I have also been told that I will only be paid until the last client payment has gone through, so even though I have to stay to cash up and clean, tidy for another hour I'm not paid for this?

The contract is vague to say the least but the owner says this is what she has been told by the NHF advice line?

Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks

If your contracted 40 hours, she has to pay you 40 hours I believe.

I’d be very surprised if this is what the NHF advise.

She must have completely misunderstood the advice they gave her. ;)

Legally, she is obliged to pay you for the hours you work so that includes the time spent cleaning and cashing up.

Speak to ACAS if she doesn’t mend her ways.
