This is my first post on this site so first of all hello to everyone!
I recieved my Acrylic course yesterday and have already read through most parts of the manual and watched the DVD. Im not completley clueless when it comes to nails but i just dont know where to start or which trainer nails to start off with! Any and all advice on where to start would be grately appriciated. Im just too scared of starting and messing it all up! Just any advice of what you have to do from start to finish would be helpfull. I know i can phone and intend to but thought the best advice would come from real people who have actually worked with the trainer. Many thanks. :|

Hi there,

I originally did the home learn course. I really don't know what to say. Start by following the DVD. If I remember correctly us start with just one nail an practice with that to fill in your first card.

Good Luck

This is the problem with home learn courses,
if you were in a class the tutor would be at your side in seconds giving the guidance that is needed .
this remark is not intended to make you feel bad it is just very common for people to feel alone and a bit lost on these types of courses, good luck with it though

I didnt mean to come accross as being funny, so sorry hun. It was my only choice as have a young son thought about it for quite some time and this was my only option. I really do know what you mean though hun so thank you. Sorry again

My advice would be to take things a step at a time. Reading the whole manual and watching all the videos might be a touch confusing and hard to assimilate in a huge hit like that.

I work with the nail trainer all the time and even was a consultant in the design process of it. It is a great learning tool.

Of course you will have your share of mess ups like everyone ... don't let that bother you. Better to mess up with the trainer than on a live model, right?

Great tool for getting your technique honed and perfected and natural nails seem a doddle after the rather large nails of the trainer. Good Luck.

hi..ive done this course, and all the others from essential nails!!

unfortunately it is starting at the beginning of the dvd and working your way through when your happy with each stage.

if i remember correctly, you start by watching and learning about health and safety. as pointless as this may seem working on a plastic hand, if you treat the nail trainer as if it was human, this will give good practise for when you do work on the public.

you start with any size nail that you colour in with felt tip pen to practise your filing technique.

once your happy with your filing technique, you then move onto preparing the natural nail, or nail trainer nail in this case, then move onto tipping and blending, then acrylic application, filing the acrylic ready for finishing, and then finishing the nail.

once youve mastered each technique, complete 10 nails saving 2 nails at each stage for the 1st progress card-size 13 nail should be used for this.

when youve done that move onto the next progress card which is if i remember 6 sets of 5 nails completed. 3 sets need to be painted wih red polish, the other 3 sets with clear polish. this is the point where you use all the sizes of trainer nails.

remember to read the book and watch the dvd which will also help with the test paper.

hope that helps

feel free to message me if you need more help

No worrys love, its easy to misunderstand things,
welcome to the site by the way

You could also call Essential Nails and speak to them direct!

Watch...watch and then watch over and over and learn.
It is a long way to work things but it can give you a great learning curve to move on, after you have done it and got a bit of faith in yourself.
I'm not saying it's a great way to learn but it will either inspire you to learn more....or bore you to death thinking "why the hell did I think this was so easy??"
Welcome to the site and good luck with your work..we're all here for you if you ever need an ear xxx

Welcome to the geek!! I think you are best to ring EN first if you are not sure where to start. They wil put you on the right path and if you have any Q's, post here. I have realised that you have to be careful how you read posts here as you can take them the wrong way as its so different from speaking to someone face to face. The people here are great and are only here to help and not judge. They have been great to us all and continue to be. Good luck with your course and I hope you enjoy your learning. x

Thank you so much all of you, i did some more reading last night and something finally clicked so i am more excited than ever to get stuck in. Thanks again

Watch the video again, read the book and then just start ... and have fun even if you mess it up. That is a good way to learn :)

Watch your dvd again hun read your book start doing your test papers as and when your sure you understand things.

Then when your confident start on you progress card and begin practising and take it from there hun.
