When I first opened my salon, my favourite treatment and the one that I focused on the most was facials. I invested in Eve Taylor because I had used it before and loved it.

However, when I had just opened my salon I had only qualified in CND Shellac™ about a month before. Now over a year down the line, my most popular treatment is Shellac and it's really taken off for me! I didn't expect it but I became really good at it and have a lot of loyal clients for it, and have also invested a lot more money and bought tonnes more CND products.

This has kind of put facial treatments on the back burner. I love doing it and clients always give me great comments telling me it's the best facial they've had etc, but I'm still more fully booked with Shellac treatments, spa manicures and pedicures, and massage.

So long story short, the problem is im struggling to use up my products!! I have all the facial ranges in 250ml bottles and I just seem to be not getting through them? I've tried to look for a smaller size, but only found 50ml on the website... does anyone else use this size and find it lasts ok for them, or have you any idea how many treatments you get out of it? I am happy to keep 250ml sizes in the soothing range, but I have only used the purifying once and the balancing I use probably about twice a month.

I'm also finding the minimum order difficult. I had a client ask to buy one of the facial kits (I don't stock any Eve Taylor for retail) but there's nothing else that I need so I can't order it!

Kind of thinking maybe I should have just bought Kaeso from Ellisons as they do 195ml sizes and I can just easily order bits with no minimum spend...but I still want really good quality products.

Sorry for the rant, feeling frustrated :(

I love Eve Taylor but as an independent therapist, I too struggle with the minimum order spend. I have a few retail items in stock but if a client wants something that I don't have, I often ask if they'll wait another month until I have a list of things I need to purchase. Usually they aren't very happy to wait which is understandable but very frustrating! It got to a point where I was overspending on things I didn't need just to get clients products they wanted. Now I don't buy anything on request which means I miss out massively.

I have a few 50ml bottles from when I ordered their mobile therapist kit. Some items I got through way too quickly and would never purchase the smaller bottle again, but some things like the Purifying mask, I still buy small and that works for me.

If you wanted to try and boost your facial sales, how about doing a special offer? I sell lots of pamper packages - I do a 30 min hot stone back massage and 30 minute facial which is probably the most popular thing I do. I also do a package called Pamper Me Pretty which is the Brightening Facial and Luxury Pedicure which has been quite popular too.

Personally I wouldn't use Kaeso, I don't think the products are that great and to me they all smell way too artificial. Eve Taylor has many great selling points that Kaeso can't provide.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Jemma, really helpful to know it's not just me that struggles with the minimum spend!

I never do special offers or anything so it's a good idea to maybe add one in to get people to try a facial. I have regular facial clients but there are some clients that just come for Shellac etc and they never book a facial due to bad experiences (they have sensitive skin and have had bad facials that have irritated them) so it could be good way of swaying them perhaps.

I'll steer clear of Kaeso, I never tried their facial products but won't bother now :) think I was just getting irritated about the Eve Taylor order! My clients are the same, if they want to order something then they want it here by their next appointment and I can't spend £60-£70 (which it ends up being after vat and postage) every month on stuff I don't really need. The candles seem to sell well so I might just keep retailing them.

I'd be really happy if they ditched their minimum spend, and whilst their at it update their website and have next day delivery but that really is wishful thinking isn't it lol :D

I'd just like to put a good word in here for Kaeso as my clients love the fragrances and it outsells my Crystal clear skin care products easily because it retails at such a good price point.
I've used many different top brands over my 30 years in beauty and kaeso is a definite keeper in my salon. No-one reacts it to it unlike Dermalogica which was always the worst on clients i found for so many clients.

When choosing a skin care brand always try samples on yourself and family to help your decision.
Thanks

I use the Kaeso pomegranate body scrub as I don't like the Eve Taylor one, but not tried anything else. I'm happy with Eve Taylor and it's good quality and there's lots of marketing support etc, just wish there wasn't a minimum spend really.

IMO...You're either a 'Facialist' - or your not!

Specialise in what you do best...don't 'dabble' and become a 'Jack of all trades'.

You have obviously found your niche in nails...be excellent at that, and enjoy!;)

Wouldn't really say I'm a jack of all trades, I love CND Shellac but don't do any other kind of nails.

I also know I'm good at facials and enjoy doing it, it's just that I haven't built up enough clients for it yet to justify spending at least £50 a month on orders :)

I agree re the minimum spend with Eve Taylor... I don't stock products either but sell the aroma wax candles, which sell really well. If you don't already, could you look into stocking them? I know it's not an ideal solution but it's an easier way to bump up the minimum spend. Also thinking your nail clients would see and purchase them and it could introduce them to Eve Taylor and your facials, especially at this time of year. I gift wrapped the candles last Christmas and they sold really well xx

Yes great idea! I have sold a couple of them before so I'll stock up for Christmas. I can demo the massage oil in the aroma wax candles after a shellac mani which would probably spark some interest ! Thanks :) xx

I was not implying you were - just saying you wouldn't want to be!:p

To deliver results - which today's client expects - you will need to invest in high end, quality products.
Brands such as Environ, Guinot, Sothy's......don't come cheep, and you will easily need to spend £50.00+per month.

Only you know your clientele.

If you think they will commit to regular facials and home care - then great!
Set your price and get booked!
If not, then as I said, focus on your other services, as you do not want cupboards full of wasted stock.;)

Not sure if it helps but I don't think there is a minimum spend when they appear at the trade shows.. ive bought a few bits for personal use over the years.

I love the idea of retailing the candles <3

I thunk you're right. That's how I managed to try the products myself before committing to the kit. I just bought the travel sizes in my skin type plus a candle. incidentally the travel size, which I used religiously morning and night, lasted me about 2 months if that helps with working out how many treatments you'd get out of the smaller sizes.

I also haven't found facials as popular as nails, which I am disappointed about as I also love doing facials and adore Eve Taylor's products. And having spent a long time and lots of money training to be a level 3 beauty therapist and nail tech, I understand why the Op wants to make a success of both.

I think I'll be ordering the travel sizes in the products I don't use that much (such as the purifying range) from now on!

Yes, my beauty qualifications cost a hell of a lot more than the CND Shellac™ training lol. I think the way forward for me is buy smaller bottles, put an offer on for massage and facial, and start retailing the candles!

Thanks ladies :)

Glad you like the candle idea :) not sure if you have your offer yet but an idea would be 20% off a facial in January for anyone in December who has nails or buys a candle as your Christmas treat for them (bonus would be to keep you busier during January too) Also maybe a % off if they buy a facial voucher and a candle together as a Christmas gift. You're clearly a perfectionist and as you said in your first post give great treatments so I'm sure as soon as you get them to try the facials they'll be returning for more. Good luck xx

Oh and love the idea to use the oil at the end of the mani, plus if it's burning in the salon people will automatically ask because they smell so beautiful

Great idea! Thank you it really helps :) sometimes it's difficult when you work on your own and have no one to help with ideas etc! Was thinking of offering vouchers to my regulars as Christmas presents to use in January, so I could definitely incorporate a facial offer into this. Thanks Hun xx
