Hi

I have a couple of questions for all you geeks who work/worked full time whilst studying part time evening.

I'm due to start college in September. Atm I have signed up for classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I'm thinking about adding a Monday class too. Do you think this will be too much?

The Tuesday class only runs from Sept-Nov so I would be 3 nights a week for these 3 months then down to 2 nights a week.

Anyone who has studied in the evening how did u find it? How many nights a week were u at college? Was it tiring? Did you ever feel you'd taken on too much and just want to quit?

I feel I've got so much to learn and I'm excited that I'm about to start. I want to do it all now.

Thanks
Lx

Hi

I am just coming to the end of my first year of studying in the evening whilst working full-time - i do Mondays and Wednesdays 5-9.15pm. It has been hard work but think depends on what else you have going on - i have two children and single parent but as they are a bit older they can help out (18 & 13) so not too bad, also they tend to do their own things at the weekend so i can do any practice and assignments.

I really enjoy beauty therapy and wishing i had done it years ago! Going to do Level 3 Holistics next year and that will be two nights and sat morning but looking forward to it.

What courses are you doing?
Hope it all goes well for you x

When I first started I did two nights a week at college and a further one night on a private course. It was damned hard work as I too was a single parent.

I did wonder sometimes that I had bitten off more than I could chew but I got there in the end though and it has been well worth the effort.

I then went on to college on a full time holistic course a couple of years ago and that was 3 days a week again bloody hard work, because I had to work even harder at my business as I only had 3 days to cram everyone in. 6 days a week working flat out is hard along with all the assignments and case studies etc.

Would I do it again? Probably! In fact I am, will be doing my PGCE in September.

Thanks for your replies.

I feel quite lazy now. I'm wondering if 3 nights a week at college 6-9 will be too much and you guys did it and you're single parents. I'm married and not got any kids. Just me and my OH at home, and I'm he'll be able to take care of himself for 3 evenings a week. I hope.

Where do you guys get your energy from? I guess having kids gives you the energy and drive to get things done.

I'm currently doing a Saturday class on gel nails at college. I've signed up for NQ Nail Care(Tue) and NQ Facial Care(Wed). The other class I'm thinking of adding is NQ Facial Massage(Mon).

Towards the end of the academic year I'm definitely going to do NQ Nail Extensions(acrylic). I'm thinking of doing a waxing course then too.

So I will be 3 nights Sep-Nov, 2 nights Dec-Feb, 3 nights Mar-Apr and 2 nights May-Jun. Hope that makes sense.

I hope that either in 2010 or 2011 we're in a good financial position that I'd be able to leave my job and study full time.

I'm currently doing two nights a week level 2 beauty, working 9-5 monday to friday and doing an Open Uni degree as well - as a result my life is pretty much governed by lists and deadlines:eek:

Plus fit in a boyfriend and a life into that and it can be quite hard - definately glad I'm doing it, I think I'll reap the rewards once it's all done with, but I'm wanting to do nails next and I'll be doing a CND or NSI (4 days total I think over a few weeks) rather than going back to night school again, I personally feel like it's been a bit of a big committment time wise, especially with everything else (...want to learn to drive etc.). I get really excited when it's half term cos I know I have spare time!

But there are plenty of people doing the same thing and we manage - must say, looking forward to getting the next 6 weeks or so at college done with cos then I'm a qualified Beauty Therapist, woop!
