In November of this year Samantha Sweet, co-founder and Communications Director at Sweet Squared, embarked on an adventure, with her stepfather Simon Rouse, that would challenge them both in every way possible.

The challenge was to cycle no less than 400km across Rajasthan, India finishing up at the Taj Mahal. That in itself is madness but to undertake this challenge in no less than six days was pure lunacy. And, just to make matters more interesting, Samantha hadn't really ridden a bike since she was a teenager.

Both Samantha and Simon decided, after the sad passing of Len Wallace a family friend and beloved industry figure, that they would complete the challenge in his name raising money for "Look Good, Feel Better" - the charity that works to support cancer patients when they struggle with losing their hair and all those other horrible things that happen when you undergo chemotherapy.

Samantha Sweet said, "My dad has forever wanted to see the Taj Mahal. He’s now 74 and has got into this ‘Bucket List’ mind-set “If I don’t do it now”... It seemed poignant to be able to fulfil dad’s dream and raise money for a charity close our hearts and one that represents and recognises our beauty industry."

So what did they see on their epic journey?

In a nutshell? Samantha explains, "400km from Delhi to Jaipur in 6 days. 2 guides. 15 cyclists. 2 mechanics. 1 bus driver. 1 dodgy resort. 2 decent resorts, 2 amazing fortes. 1 brilliant pension. 1 uncomfortable tent. Lots of rough roads. Many camels & goats. Myriads of cows. Some elephants. Lots of rubbish. Masses of honking. Beautiful women & children. Many photo-bombing boys and men. Lots of chicken curry. Lots of exercise. Sore butts. Good friends and a few drinks!!"

But, to the really important stuff, did they get Dehli Belly?
"No – not once! Truly!"

Did you get to see any nails on your journey?
"Sadly now as we were cycling most of the time. In fact, we didn't see that many women at all (they were probably all busy cooking chicken curry!)"

Were the loos really that bad?
"China was worse but yes, they're weren't good."

Did you get saddle sores?
"Honestly no. I invested in great padded cycling shorts and Assos Chamois Cream - it all worked!"

What's your next challenge?
"Racing huskies across the Arctic"

Big kudos to Samantha and Simon.

Until then…geek on!
