I think you know deep down that should pay the salon owner the cost of the training. In my eyes you didn't complete 6 months, id would be irritated that i would have encouraged you to grow. (it shows promise that the salon owner was willing to invest in YOUR skills)
I don't want to sound mean but in this industry regardless of kids/homelife we work around our clients and our hours are pretty flexible, sometimes we don't get a life because we're working around everyone elses needs. I think you could have compromised with the owner on working hours on a bi weekly basis rather than leaving it in. (A skill set takes time to develop not a overnight success.)
Make amends with your salon owner, its not to late, or pay the owner. Good luck xoxo
