I have been keeping an eye on Professional Beauty website for the rules for the comps at Excel in March. There is no info as yet on there. Does anyone know where I can get information on the rules?

Hi geeks

I am so sorry the rules should have been ready by now, we have the 3 new categories to write and they all needed tweaking!

They are now finished, im just waiting on the proof readers! They will uploaded onto the PB website by Wed 23rd. The entry form, so you can see the times/categories etc will be uploaded today.

If any one has any questions, please call 0208 302 2020. Thank you.

Thanks Rachel!

Have downloaded the rules for the encapsulation comp, it says you have 90 mins and one hand needs to be completed prior.

But on the entry form it doesnt state that it is a 'right hand only' comp, like it does for the fancy french and combined nail art?

I will pm Rachel, just wondered if anyone else had noticed this xx

I looked at the Pro Beauty website and what a confusion that is. On the web pages it says both Excel 2008 AND Excel 2007. I don't know what is current info and what isnt. I will call Rachel tomorrow too. There was nothing on the site either to say what comps where when and on what day.

i am confused asw ell as it has gone back to the old website and isn't up to date, nothing about championships, encapulated or fancy french, whats going on?

Hopefully, I can get Rachel to post the rules and all on this site.

It is hard to make plans when you don't have the details.

just checked it out and it does seem to be the old rules, nothing about salon nails or fancy french either.

I am thinking about entering the Salon Nails Competion at Excel. I have never competed before but thought why not try..

Anyway on the list of rules it says you need eye protection what is this and where do I get it from I have never used it before.

Also can anyone suggest a good red polish to use it has to be matt red.

Any other advice would be great - Has anyone else won on their 1st competion or is it like practice at these things makes perfect..:green:

You can purchase eye protection safety glasses from b&q for about £7.

Creative's Company Red, Wildfire, Tuti Fruiti or Tabloid reds are great for comps. If you do a search you'll come up with loads of info re entering comps.

It has been known for people to win their first competition but it has not been the case for me. I see competing as a personal challenge which is very rewarding educationally and can be great fun. You are depending on so many factors going in your favour on the day and it can be very frustrating if things don't go to plan. I aim to exceed my personal best when I enter competitions and try my best to enjoy the experience.

Go for it and good luck!

Good advice Chris!

My advice would def be to read the rules and keep some rescue remedy to hand!

Many competitors turn up on the day having not read the rules and have then forgotton something important.

Do a search on the site as the geeks give loads of comp advice.

Any probs, just shout! (Comp hotline 0208 302 2020)

I went to Emap yesterday and confirmed that there was a problem on the site, i am so sorry for any confusion, but it is ok now and all the rules etc are ready to download.

Just a couple of questions i have already had -

Competitor numbers are allocated at the time i recieve your entry form. The quicker you get the form in to me, the lower the number you get, this is number your model will be judged in, so to keep your model happy, get your form in quick! Ie; LP1 is judged first, LP20 will be about 1 hour down the line!
You label/numbers are not sent with your registration pack, but are given to you on the day.

The Encapsulation is one hand only. This was a last minute change which is why it is not on the entry form as that had already been printed. We changed it as we decided that 5 categories all ending at the same time would be manic so we needed to end one early to start the judging. Hope thats ok.

Photos and showcases can be sent to head office before the show, you should use Recorded or Special delivery.
Send to - Professional Beauty Nail Competition, Sophie Ommanny, Emap Communications, Greater London House, Hampstead Road, London, NW1 7EJ.
I must state that NO photos, showcases, certificates or scoresheets will be held, collected, saved or returned by the organisers after the awards ceremony.

You cannot use the same model for morning and afternoon categories as the morning model will still be busy being judged. The only acception to this is manicure and pedicure, as manicure is a small short category, they will be judged in time for the afternoon.

Manicure and Pedicure - I need support on this one as it was me that kicked up the fuss that it had been withdrawn! I have managed to get it back so i need to prove it was worth it! They are ideal categories for those who love natural nails. No written tests are included in any of the categories.

Fancy French - permanant nail art can be anywhere on the nail. Each nail can be different but must follow a similar theme for consistancy ie, all 10 nails can have different size flowers.

Good luck! x

No. Although it is called "National" Nail Comp, there are usually competitors from other parts of Europe who often get on the podium. I think Excel comps are the best because the competition is usually very strong with great competitors.
