Hi guys,

Firstly sorry if this has been done to death I did search but loads came up and I could'nt find exactly what I was looking for :green:
I have a client this week she is a severe nail bitter, I have done her nails once before sculpted, I was not happy with the results even though she was exstatic. I would really like to try extending the nails beds but I basically dont have a clue where to start! dont know if to sculpt or use tips etc! please can somebody help  also what is the best CND opaque powder that will suit most skin tones?

Definaltly sculpt....and use a coverpink to extend the nail beds, but dont do them to long or they will come off.
Best options for a nail bitter is to grow thier nails out before doing anything flashy, i like to do a set of clear sculp extentions quite short and cover them in gel or normal polish untill they have grown out a little then you can give them a nice balanced french or somthing else. :)

I am absolutely useless at putting links up so, in the tutorials is a lovely one on tipping a nail biter, it shows a side view of how to cut the side wall of a tip out so that it fits over the bulbous skin that so many nail biters have.
I have used this technic and it worked a treat. So:
Prep nail as usual, fit tip as per the tutorial, and then apply l&p or gel as normal.
Extending the nail bed, again I read recently that cnd have produced a new range of coverage powders that save all the custom blending, I would suggest having a look on the cnd web site for more details because I'm a bit out of date with cnd products:irked:
Lastly, I have found that I am never happy with the results from doing a nail biter but, they usually are and that's the important bit, because if they are happy then they will keep coming back and each time you re balance they will look better.
Good luck hun:hug:

i always sculpt my nail biters using reverse application, I only allow them to the tip of the finger as any longer and they wouldnt be able to do owt with them.
make sure they are smooth and tidy as biters run they fingers along there lips trying to find disorder and any little bit they find they cant help but try to put it in order with there teeth and then straight away regret what they have done and are embarassed at the fact that they have ruined your hard work.

Sarah ... it really does not matter a damn if you tip or sculpt this type of nail ... I would choose the easier route for me, and use a tip to give me instant order on the bitten plate.

THEN I would use my normal application of zone 1,2 & 3 but place your white where it will look the prettiest, followed by the opaque Perfect Powder of your choice. The opaque powder will cover the tip even if you have had to place it halfway down the nail ... and you won't see it.

The NEUTRAL opaque is the one that suits most skin tones if you are in doubt. although I believe there is a good value CND kit containing 3 small jars of the opaques (one of each colour) so you can get used to them all and provide custom colour for your clients.

Another even quicker way to do a person like this biter is to tip, use a PopIt and your opaque powder to cover the whole nail and then when finished, just paint on the white as in a French Manicure with polish. It looks gorgeous .. is super quick .. and any nail biter would be over the moon with the result. You don't need to worry about rebalancing the white at the next appointment .. just re-paint. Eventually when her nails have grown, you can then go on to do the 'fancy stuff'.

Thank you for all the replys ladies, think on this occassion I'll try tipping as it is easier :) not sure if I'll do the white with l & p or just paint as gigi said (fab idea!) but I'll take pictures and post them for a critque xx

Aw wish this thread had popped up last week, could of done with it.

I had a lady who was a nail bitter recently , I sat there so wishing I could do custom blending/extending nail bed , but sadly opptied for white tips.. ..please dont shout at me!!! , she said she had white tips before, so went ahead with them .

She was so pleased with the final finish , shes booked in for infills...aw damn now Ive gotta rebalance those tiny little french nail beds ,originally she was having them done for a speacil occasion, and I thought white tips wouldnt hurt just this once , so now Im off to see her again next week.

Mmm , Im just wondering if there still going to be on her fingers anyway, or will she have nibbled them all off ?

who knows? !

thats one of the things i like about doing nailbiters, theres a new challenge every time you see them !

just another quick question, If I am using an opaque powder does this mean I dont have to blend the tip? xx

Hi, can i ask what a reverse application is? would you apply the pink first?

Thanks

No you don't have to but I would still thin and blend a bit or better still use a well-less tip and then you have no blending to do.

I Loathe doing nail biters. So I do them the easiest way possible.

I KNOW that 9 out of 10 severe nail biters will not last as clients. They don't respect what you have made or done for them. Some do remarkably well but most keep the nails I do in their mouth and squeeze them and crack them or play with them. At first they try but a few rebalances down the line and they can't seem to help themselves. OR (worst yet) they clean them with their teeth and crack them or cause lifting at the corners.

They also never tell you what you can expect to deal with at the rebalance appointment. Even though I ask, they won't ring up and tell you they have annihilated their nails. I don't call that interesting, I call that a pain in the proverbial!! I keep to strict time and if I have an hour, then that is all they get if they haven't warned me first.

Yes, reverse application is as you say. do a search here on the site and you will find much more.

Funny this thread has just popped up, I worked late on Saturday to do a full set on a walk in (she just happened to be passing the salon & I couldn't resist the challenge! [or the £££s]! LOL!)

Horrendous nail biter! Index fingers especially short (approx 3mm!), I used well less tips, CND neutral opaque powder & soft white applied in the reverse method, even if I say so myself the results & the transformation were stunning!!! So much so that she welled up when she saw the finished product! As we all know nail biters in the main cannot go the usual 2 - 3 weeks between appointments as their nails are constantly in their mouth, anyway on her own suggestion she has booked in for next sat for a maintenance app & have made her promise to try her best not to undo all my hard work! Hopefully, I will see her next sat & all she will need is a quick tidy (although I will not be holding my breath on that one!)

Never sculpted a nail biter, far easier imo to tip & o/lay, I would imagine a tip would give a far better shape (ie curve) than sculpting over what can in the main be just skin beyond the free edge (or what's left of it!), also on this type of client the enhancement needs to be kept quite short as others have mentioned so if you were scuplting would it not be difficult to enhance the c curve (with whatever you use ie curve sticks/magic wand or fingers)? Just wondering.

Usually when sculpted, the nails I've seen people do end up looking like Smarties!! So much easier to use a tip. Who needs the hassle?

If nail biters are going to pay the same for our work on a full set as people with 'normal' nails then we have to make it quick and easy on ourselves to be commercially viable. So use a tip and let it do the work for you and then your opaque powders.

yes hun apply the pink first swipe in your smile line if its not as good as you want it perfect it with your file and then butt the white up to the smile line making sure you tuck in the corners.
then file into shape, it doesn't matter if your white goes over the pink as you can file it off later
