Currently do spray tan in a shower unit which is fitted with extractor fan. Have read how successful other people on the forum find this but am having problems.
Shower/room still fills up with product - therapist and client both have to wear masks and the extractor fan unit (above shower in loft space) drips!
Cleaned out regularly and fairly powerful.
What sort of extractor fan do you all use - i.e. how big, is it freestanding or fitted in.
Use St. Tropez solution + gun
Thanks for ANY info - don't really want to go to the expense of buying a booth in these tough times!

before answering could I ask you how much solution are you using for a full body tan and how far away from the skin are you spraying?

hi collin
I don't do spray tan my girls do but as far as I'm aware they use about 3/4 of one of the little bottles attached to the gun, for a full body. They stand pretty close to the client.
Think I'm going to get a large extractor to go outside the shower - facing client.

you should be getting around 20 tans from a litre :eek: and the overspray is minimal with a hvlp system, most salons get away without extraction units have your therapists been trained to use the machine properly

Hi, Keep an eye on ebay. There's some real bargains to be found, even if you have to pay for collection! I got a used Sunspa Mini Booth in excellent condition for just £195.

I get the filters made locally for around £50 for all three and they last around 100 to 150 sprays. It's very easy to keep clean and looks great:)

If im honest and not wanting to sound brutal your problem is not one of extraction but more one of operator driven.

You are using far to much solution which is sending all your profits strait into the room and clogging up your extract fan to boot.

Rather than investing in an extract fan I would highly recommend investing in training for your girls as clearly there over doing things.

"Less is more" (OMG that's going to be engraved on my tombstone come that dreaded day:eek:) and your girls should be using around 35-45ml per full body application and by spraying 6/8inches from the skin less solution is lost to over spray.

Seriously get into your spray tan team and

1) immediately turn the volume output dial down a qtr turn and keep doing so each couple of days
2) check they are spraying no further than 8 inches away
3) embed the "less is more" culture into them
4) if you can afford it get them retrained...your investment will be repaid very quickly just by using less solution and those that you spray will have a far better experience and tan outcome and I wager your spray tan business side of things will grow

HTH and good luck to you and the girls

thank you for all your advice - always appreciated!
All the girls have been trained by St. Tropez at various stages of their working life - you may be right and its time for them all to have a retraining session.

Am now looking at the cheapest booth from spraytansupermarket - about 945 I think, as lopposed to an extractor unit

Retrain and save the pain of spending that hard earned £945 because if the girls Carry on using the amount of solution they are currently using...they will do nothing other than clog up the new extract module.

Resolve the cause of the problem and problem solved...3 girls retrained in one go ...much cheaper in the longer term
