I put a fibreglass on a client's nail (correctly this time!) and she went shopping and called me saying she had caught the nail and it practically ripped the nail off (it was hanging on by one side). I have no idea how she managed to rip it so badly, so I had her soak the fibreglass nail off and half her natural nail looks very red and it hurts her to touch it. I also think the first layer of nail has come off with it.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do with it?

Silk? or should I tell her to leave it for a while before applying anything else?

well i dont know whether it would be best to leave it alone , cos it might be too sore to do anything with

or
put something on it, to protect it, i know when mine are damaged they hurt less when enhanced?

but the only thing i can advise until another geek help you out, is by suggesting she starts putting lashings of solar on it, which will help the natural nail no end xxx

Hiya hun

Ok firstly, if that was me and she has caused such an amount of damage, I probably wouldnt have soaked it off, I would just reduce the length and ask her to get medical advice if she has ripped her nail plate away. I wouldnt put any enhancement on it until she has done this as she will probably find that her doctor tells her not to have enhancements.

Do you have a standard doctors permission letter? If so, send her to her doctors with that and see what the doc says.

The actual nail plate hasn't come off just the enhancement.
I am only a trainee so I dont have any doctor's notes, as I just do nails for practice not money.... I just like to sound proffessional by saying client, haha.

I don't have any solar oil at the moment, what would be the best alternative?

Ah right I see. So do you mean that it has taken some layers of her nailplate off with the enhancement? If its red and sore it sounds like it, and if so, whats left of her natural nail will be very thin so I still wouldnt soak off, just take the length down.

I would still ask her to get her doctors permission before enhancing that one you know, just because if you are charging her you need to cover yourself. Do you have liability insurance? Even if you are a student and charging you still need to be insured. I always think its better to err on the side of caution than think "oh it'll be ok", sometimes those situations can turn round and bite you on the backside!!

No No, sorry if I confused you, but I don't charge any money I just use willing family/friends to practice on. I think I am just going to give up on the fibreglass thing because I seem to be getting nowhere with it, even though I thought I'd mastered it (to an extent)

I will leave her nail alone and tell her to use cuticle oil twice a day to keep the nail nourished, and see how it grows. Also I will advise her to see a doctor. Thanks

durrr!!! sorry yes its says quite clearly that you dont charge!!! (its been a long day!).

Get her to bob to the doctors, and the cuticle oil certainly wont make things any worse.

Ooooh, but dont give up on the fibreglass though!! Keep practising, get some tuition for the bits you are getting stuck on, you'll get there!!

I've been shown around 4-5 times now, and every time I think I have managed it something else goes wrong. I got my smile lines/scratches to go right and I also mastered the fact of tips falling off, and now i have to deal with the natural nail being damaged after she ripped it off by accident :(
