Hey all,
Do the semi-perm eyelashes really have to be applied every 2-3 weeks?

Thanks
Manda

Also I am looking for a decent salon in south london (close to balham preferable) that do semi-perm at a decent price. Recommendations?

Hi

Yes they do have to be reapplied every 2-3 weeks I'm afraid. This is because the natural lashes fall out cyclically as all hair does and they take the extensions with them! At that point your lashes begin to look sparse and straggly in some cases. In the same way as you have to maintain your gel or acrylic nails you need to maintain your lashes, and at about the same frequency.

I'm afraid i can't help you with the salon though, I'm a north Londoner myself, but do bear in mind the reason it is so expensive is because it takes an enormous amount of concentration and it is a quite highly skilled treatment. HTH

Thanks Lucy!
If it is similar to acrylic, does that mean it is damaging the lashes underneath?
I have nice thick, long lashes and guess I am just being greedy wanting them even longer and thicker! - so don't want to lose the quality of my real ones.
Where abouts in North London are you?

Acrylic doesn't harm the natural nail growing under the, enhancement hun .x

No Not damaging to the lashes as they are attached to an individual lash and then as that lash naturally falls out (as they all do eventually) the extension falls off with it.

I was only equating lash extensions to acrylics etc from an in-fill perspective, not that they were actually in anyway similar if you understand.

I'm on week #3, but I apply my own cluster (demi) lashes. If you're interested in a great application process, I love Kate Dearn's written instructions (she's one of our own here: KateLisa) on the Tutorials section of SG. Kate was kind enough to allow me to reprint her great instructions and before/after photos on my site that caters to chemo patients. If you're interested in applying your own cluster lashes, I suggest you read her tutorial and you can also watch a video that I have on my website, Temecula Lipstick Company - just click on the "Lessons" tab and you'll find it. The hott tip for this is very pointy tweezers, in my opinion.

One of my girlfriends who owns a spa just completed a training on Individual Eyelash Extentions and plans to charge a ton of money. She told met that the "bulk" of the lashes are suppposed to last up to 2 months but! you have to have touch-ups done every 2-4 weeks. The company claims that a natual lash typically falls out every 60-90 days and indicates you cannot use waterproof mascara. Anyhow, my friend took a certification class by a compay called Xtreme Lashes - go to ww.xtremelashes.com (I don't know if they're in the UK) and I know she paid A TON of $ for her class. The kit is not included and that's a zillion dollars more.

I love my clusters and they're easy to apply - it just takes a little practice and proper tools (pointy tweezers was a great suggestion - thanks Kate!)
Hugs,
Kelly

Thanks for all the advice!
