Well girls and guys need to get this off my chest. I had a lady come to me a few times for a spray tan, she asked loads of questions about my business etc.

Well i have just found out she now is doing mobile spray tanning and she only lives up the road form me. She is using Xen Tan, dont know if its good or not?

I just feel very cheated that she would do that to me, just goes to show!

Aww hun :(

Take it as alesson an jus next time u get a nosey person asking questions just say u can't disclose much about ur business as you coudl be giving them tips and therefore taking business away from you?? Or something along them lines?

*hugs*

Hi Hun,
Well the cheeky mare !!!!
Chin up.......you carry on, you are better than her.
Lotsa luv x    x

book in for a tan with her and see her expression when you turn up...ask her loads of questions like she did you:rolleyes:

I know exactly how you feel, I have had this done twice to me, once by a family member!!!!!
The best revenge is to make sure your business is a huge triumph!

I agree with cabinkel. I understand how upsetting it is but at the end of the day she didn't really do anything wrong. Many therapists do market reseach by visiting local salons etc. Just make sure you are super fantastic and you won't have a problem.

btw. I have just changed to Xen Tan and I think it's fantastic.

I am afraid this happens all the time and is very common, but not nice all the same.

This is what you have to do, offer more. Be better, be different!

Ohh hun :(

Its not nice when things like this happen but they do and unfortunatly we cant do nothing about it. The best thing you can do is offer the best service in tanning and if you possibly can drop your price a tiny bit.

xxx

No. Don't drop your price. That would be one of the worst things you could do.

Course its not by dropping it a pound or so. As long as your still able to cover your costs. I recently dropped my price in spray tanning and now im much much more busier. Imo was the best thing i ever did

Competition is healthy. Indeed it's an essential part of business; we need it to raise our game and offer a better service to our clients.
Make sure that your service is the best it can be, listen to your clients, and your business will thrive.

This has happened to me 'a few times'.... I guess I make it look easy. Needless to say, those who have set up in competition with me have not taken business from me

But what happens when your competitors start dropping their prices?

Well yes that is one thing to look at but then they may not want to drop their prices

I dont think clients are as price sensitive as you think. If you are charging the average or accepted amount then it comes down to thing like service, punctuality and likeability. Sadly there are always scavengers around our industry. You are the real deal and chances are she will give up pretty quick. Most non-industry people have no idea how tough and competitive this industry can be. I had this done to me a few times now and it makes you feel sick at the time but they soon fall by the wayside. x

This kind of situation is quite hard for me too there is always new competition in my area. As i teach spray tanning, Ive had to teach people very local to me i.e around the corner to where i live and when i ask what they plan to do after their course they always say they are going to have their own spray tanning business.

Which of course Ive accepted and expect this to happen. But i have not stopped having business for my tanning in fact Ive got more clients now than ever and still very busy tanning people. And the reason they come to me as they know they are getting a great tan from me, its a reasonable price and Ive been doing it for so long there is no reason for my clients to change unless they are unhappy with my service.

You have to mainly up your game, give them a service that the people down the road don't. Give them the best treatment ever and there will be no reason for them to go else where.

So having competition on my door step is very common for me due to me teaching others but like i said I'm still as busy as ever.

this happended to someone i know and the other person did it sligtly cheaper...and some clients tried the other person but they did come back (well the ones she knows about) they said she was unfriendly and they would have to wait over an hour for their nails to be done even when they had an appointment.

people take other things into consideration not just price

Like someone said - competition can be healthy, but my daughter is a MUA and a bride-to-be has asked for a makeup lesson as she is going to do her own makeup on the day. I told my daughter to be careful, you never know what tips they are picking up, especially with special occasion makeup. My daughter said it's fine, but if you were getting married would you pay the same price for a lesson as makeup on your wedding day? Sounds odd to me.

I also think competition is healthy. Keeps you on the ball and makes you strive to be the best you can be.
I've had people come in my salon to suss the place out and it doesn't bother me in the slightest.
As a salon owner, you have to keep an eye on the competition and see what people are offering and what deals they are doing etc.... That's just business.
I have clients that say they love the atmosphere in my salon. They like the staff, the service they get and the fact that they feel valued.
Clients are always telling me about their experiences in other salons and to be honest some of them are shocking.
If you listen to your clients and give them the best service you can then you will have those clients for life.
Don't worry about what the competition is like, just concentrate on giving the best service you can.
