Few Teething problems, spray tanning.

Hi guys I am new to spray tanning and trained with tantric. I am using the hvlp 5008 (i think ha ha) My question is I am experiencing leaking from the cup, only now and again, I have tried not putting cup on to tight and vice versa, I never put more than 100ml of solution in, Its just a bit of a pain some times as I sprayed 5 ladies the other day and kept on havin to stop and re screw cup etc, and there was tan everywhere. I clean my machine every week and gun and needle by dismanteling it. Just wandered if anyone experienced the same thing?

Also I am finding spraying the inside and outside of the feet a pain, I am finding that there is a white stripe at bottom of foot either side, as I can not get gun parralel with bottom of foot iygwim, How do you all combat this? I spray legs and then turn nozzle to horizontal position and spray sides of feet, then nozzle back and spray from toes up to ankle. I was thinking of getting little stool so client could place foot on this while I spray inside/outside of feet. Also does anyone use the diff positons on the spray gun, I generally leave mine in the vertical and was taught to spray downwards all the time, was intrested to see if any exp tanners had any good tips.

I live in liverpool was wandering if one day if there are any experienced sprayers local, could I watch there technique and trouble shoot if needed, I was never shown example of how to tan just illustrated iygwim.

I found I had the same problem with my first gun - it also had a sticky trigger and was sticking in the on position so couldn't stop the spray. I was given a new one and I have no leakage at all. I would guess it is a problem with the seal, not sure if you need a new one or not but I think I read somewhere about putting vaseline on it meantime(hopefully someone will say if that is right or not).

With regards to the spraying, I always have the gun set so that it looks like 6 oclock and if going across the body turn the gun on it's side. I mainly spray downwards though. For the feet I turn the gun on it's side (rather than change the setting) and spray from back to front and then a very light mist over the top, I find this is quite easy to get in at everything and gives good coverage with no 'dirty' patches.

I am sure that if you require further training then your rep will come out and watch you doing a few tans and point you in the right direction.

hi firstly the cup shouldnt leak but yes i have had people have them leak it because its not tight enough the thread and gasket design on your machine is much more heavy duty than the older machines where every one was scared of over tightening give it a good tighten problem solved
secondly your quote as not been shown how to spray tan just an illustration has really shocked me.we train in groups and they all spray each other or if not we ask our trainees to bring at least 2 friends to have a go on
last week i was the model and had to keep showering it off :irked:

Hi Kate,

1) give us a call and I will arrange a new gun to be sent out to you and the leaking gun picked up and sent to the manufacturer.

2)There really is no need to be changing the nozzle settings on your gun whilst doing a full body.
Getting things right does take a while and can get frustrating but with consistent usage you will get there.

Why not give your trainer a call and talk through the problems your having and im sure..as part of our service ..she will give you good advice or happily have you back for top up training.

Do you mean you didn't get to spray tan a real person during your training?

I get a leaky gun sometimes when i shake it (don't laugh!). I do work fast and I do the side of the body diagonally and if I go too fast it does leak a little - after all its liquid and theres lots of bits for it to get out of.

I too don't understand why your changing your gun position to do feet - just work down the leg then pull back at the feet - feet need little spray tanning at all as they take very quick.

With practise though you will get there.

kate (spraytankitty)if you tighten the cup up tight they dont leak if you look at the cup lip on the 5008 its really wide and the thread is narrower and deeper you can tighten them up without any negative effect i promise !! the over tightening of the cup was all t100 and t200 nonsense as the gasket was narrow and it flattened causing miss spraying give it a good twist unless your built the incredible hulk you wont break it and it wont leak no way

Thanks guys, what I meant was, I have never seen anyone experienced do a spray tan, we practised once on each other (me and friend) but think it would be usefull to see someone expperienced do it, so I could see how they spray iygwim. It says in my manual to turn noxxle to do outside and inside foot, my feet end up white on the sides at bottom if I dont do this (they still do a bit). Thanks guys I will try tightening cup and see how I go, although I have tried both, will let you know tomorrow how I get on .

hun i think you need to go back to you trainer as tell her/him your concerns as turning the nozzel imo is not wright the nozzel ... imo should be set at an angle like 2:40pm on a clock and as staid pull back your gun when appling on the feet it should be a faint mist that covers then feet so no harsh line is seen i hope you can sort your gun out to hun xx

Katie, I did not teach you to spray the side of the feet as you shouldn't have to. There will be enough solution falling just to give a very very light coating here.

I did call you back about your leaking cup but you didn't come back to me.

Why haven't you called me to discuss your problems?

i also trained with tantrick and the trainer came to me i used my sister as a model and i arranged with the trainer to have a spary tan myself in my training session done at my house. i was taught to have my spray to come out horizontal and i leave it like that the whole time and spray side to side across the body and never to spray the feet as enough mist fulls which tan the feet nicely! i have so far no complaints of anyone i have sprayed using this method and find it easy to do!

The flow chart which I have here julie clearly states turn nozzle,. We never done this in training Julie I know, we did not do the feet we decided the overspray from legs would be sufficiant. But when I am using 12% I am finding feet are bit white, so I had to follow the chart as we never went over this in training. Sorry Julie I was doing a clients nails on fri eve when you rang me back. I am going to see how I go this week as I have 6 tans booked in on thursday.
