Hi Guys

Was wondering if you have any advice on finding new potential clients for my mobile hairdressing business. I have built up a good number of clients per the past few years that i do at home, but not quite enough to take the plunge.

Do you have any marketing ideas? or what you roughly charge at home as people seem to be surprised with my prices sometimes : I only charge £55 for a full head foils and a cut , and £17.50 for a cut and blow-dry! which is half the salon price.

Any advice or ideas would be greatly received!!! thank you!!

xx

Price wise, im the same as salons sometimes higher than some salons, I see myself as convenience and charge so.
As for advertising there's a thread on the biz forum, but after leaflet drops, go to local business's and give them a a4 copy of ur flyer as a poster or put ur price list on one side of a4 and use that.
Get a banner made for local junctions with high traffic, laminate flyers, hole punch where it's just plastic not paper ad cable tie to lamp posts.
Millions more but I'm now in holiday mode and can't think xoxo

gumtree.com for your area and freeindex...costs nothing and i got loads of clients xxx

Be damn good and look after your clients they will soon be recommending you to every1, mine certainly do :) x

I get new clients though my website and word of mouth, leaflet drips have worked for me, some people say facebook, theres a thread more ways to promote yourself it's worth doing a search for it as lots of useful info to help you

A friend of mine set up a website for her mobile hairdressing business. I help her by "backlinking" to her site via our blogsite. Google loves backlinks :)

Setting up a blog will help too, spreading the word on Twitter... all helps finding new clients and spreading the word.

Heres an example of one of our blogs which would be what you would want to be doing. HERE

Thankyou guys - I agree word of mouth is the best. I just find it difficult having a free day! but i suppose this will happen at the beginning. I have just been to do a maintenance appointment for one of my clients and she has re booked for extensions as well as a colour and a spray tan! and one of her daughters booked for a colour! so just need to keep plugging away! so glad i found salon geek, good to talk to other professionals!

Couldn't agree more! Has worked for me for 15 years! A lot of salons just don't get customer care right! Word of mouths how I get all my clients! My team use a recommend a friend type promo. :)

Yes! good idea! Im in the process of making some recommend a friend cards! with a 25% discount, is this too much? thanks guys

Can you guys help me out, i like the recommend a friend idea, im starting in a salon 4 weeks today and the boss has asked me to think up some promotional ideas an this sounds fab. What do you put on your cards? Also how do you word them, i was thinking if you recommend a friend then you get ?% off your next visit then your have one new client then get that new client to recmoned another friend and then they get their discount or do you do it where you recomend a friend and both you and your friend get ?% discount on your appointments?

Thanks. xx

I rely solely on word of mouth...sometimes business is slow but that doesn't bother me atall...I like to know my clients are linked and they are loyal.i think advertising brings in the clients that cause issues by wanting things for free and complaints for no reason.

Also, if you think from a clients point of view, if you were looking for a new hairdresser whether in a salon or not, would you look in the paper or ads in a shop, or would you ask your friends...?

So true!!

I gave some vouchers to my sons school fete to give as prizes, only 3 free cut and blowdrys and it gained me 3 new customers who have also recommended me to several others so gained a load of clients that way. At the end of the day it only cost me 3 cut and blowdrys. Good luck

Can you tell me the sellers name? ive looked but cant seem to findthem#> thankx. xx

1STLEISUREPROMOTIONS i had a quick look and found this seller, could print them yourself tho on some nice card..

i used to use them when in the salon,

give original client the voucher and tell her to fill in HER details and pass onto a friend,
new client brings in voucher
post a thank you voucher for original client
then give your new client one, not long and you will have loads more clients..

good luck,

dont know if you have ever used vista print, i got some really good quality price lists however i know some ppl do not rate them, have a look and you can edit them pretty much however u want, i had a quick look at the business postcards which you could turn into recommend a friend, with the back of it for the clients details, you can also get them glossy so looks better than just printed card.
think it was about £12 for 100..

my recommend a friend was only to use on design cuts and style dry not colours. and i would give 50% off seems a lot but 50% is better than 0% and the clients love it..

another wee incentive if your client rebooks within 6 wks they can get 20% off this encourages them to come regularly, obviously not used at the same time as rec a friend offer..

or the loyalty card, again vista print business card which are free just now, you can use the back for loyalty stamps or next appointment, i would do 6 cuts free style dry , always good for a wee night out and again encourages clients to pop in not just for the usual cut and colour services,

oops got carried away sorry x

Just bumping :)

Vista print are cheap but there delivery rates are extortionate & ridiculous £7 for 21 days

I have used vista print for my business cards, but have managed to downlad the same image from my business cards and save on laptop hence thiningg i may as well make my own as i can use my same image!!

I agree on the postage prices as wel, but they do come from belgium so i guess it d will cost more than uk-uk delivery but for 21 day service, felt like forever waiting for my business cards!!

I was thinking of ding a £5.00 off for my recommend a friend, to be used on any service, in my area we ant charge extersionate rates or we woulo have no clients!! just a small seaside town!

I also like the loyalty scheme idea, again i was thinking of 5 stamps £5.00 off your next visit.

Definately intend on taking advantage of school fayres and things, my lil ones at pre-school so there next even i will be donating a gift voucher!!

thanks for all the help, great thread!
