First attempt at extended nailbed. Used NSI Pink Masque (not too successful) not keen on the colour and a little patchy at sidewalls. Would mixing a little yellow to the mix take away the lilac tone?

i use nsi pink masque and i know what you mean about the colour.having said that i think these look really good.the only thing i would say is to make your smile lines abit deeper but otherwise your smile lines are so nice and crisp.well done they look great.xx

Do you mix anything with your pink masque to take the edge off? These look fine in normal daylight, but other times it makes my fingers look dead and frozen

I've tried a more severe smile line before and it didn't suit me but I think they look really nice on other people.

Thanks for the comments,
Cheers,
Hazel

hi hazel, thats fine as you know what suits you.deep smile lines arent everyones cup of tea, lol.x
i havent tried mixing anything with the pink masque as i dont really use it but i do see what your saying about the colour.have you got the technail color kit as it may be that the yellow might help.i dont really know that much about custom blending so im not sure if it would make enough difference.
try it and see,as it may work.xx

Just had another look at the photo and realised that it probably wasn't the best one to show the smile line shape, so here's another:

yes that a much better photo,i take back what i said, lol.
your smile lines are gorgeous how do you get them so sharp and crisp,im so jealous :green:.
what did you use for the smile lines and did you use clear tips?xx

I cheated! I did the nailbed first, filed the smile line shape, placed a form underneath then sculpted the free edge up to it. I read another geeks post about this method and thought it would be easy then to change the colour when I get bored - just file away the free edge and sculpt on another. Only problem is, it's the nailbed colour I don't like

Cheers,
Hazel

It not cheating hun...its called doing what works for you.

I think they look really nice...love those smiles x

Not to question your ability Hazel, but doesn't doing it this way weaken the strength of the nail..? i.e. will it be easy for the free edge to snap off ..?'

Sorry, I ask this of ignorance to this method, not to question your professional skills.

Your work is lovely.

I do alot of repairs this way....file down the broken/chipped/cracked free edge and sculpt another one on...never had a problem doing so. In fact it was doing this that gave me more confidence in my sculpting.

That is exactly how I do my sculpts! Nice work, love the elegant look of the long nailbed with shorter free edge. It is not weak because acrylic bonds to acrylic, so as long as the acrylic is not seeping under the form, there shouldn't be an issue. That is how 3d work can stick so well to acrylic without another layer of acrylic covering it.

I think you have done a marvellous job ! xxx

Also remeber the cb will appear cooler at the side of a cold colour so allthough they look fine on the photo it may be a good idea to warm it up slightly next time.

I personally think there is a little too much product, especially in zone 2,do you have a barrel shot of these hun ?

Overall like i say,a lovely elegant set with a beautiful ratio of zone 1 to 2+3  xxx

Beautiful crisp smiles and the free edges are a gorgeous shape and thin too which I really like.

Tbh, I am not convinced by the pink colour. Personally it looks too artificial to me and I agree that it does look like there is too much product in zone 2.

Other than this, they are lovely. Well done.

This is my Nsi mix for coverage colour...it sounds a bit long winded lol...

You may need to tweak this mix, to get it to suit your skin tone...this mix is EXACTLY the same colour as my nail plate...took me and my daughter ages to get it right lol,
But if you do...and you need help bringing it back to a colour to suit you, just shout and I will help you, x

40 parts pink masque
10 parts white (either soft or radiant, I think i used radiant)
1 part brown (I will tell you the brown I mixed in a sec)
0.1 part red

Now if you do it the same way I did, I Have those measuring spoons for baking, if you have those it will be
1 tsp pink masque
1/4 tsp white
then use your nsi scoop 1 scoop brown,
and just a tiny bit of red...
then added tiny weeny bits more of either the brown or red to warm it up untill it is right.

To mix the brown I did you will need the nsi technail kit (although I THINK they do a brown now don't they ?, I dont have it in my kit)

3 scoops rasberry red
1 scoop galaxy blue
4 scoops lemon yellow
2 scoops snow white
and I added a tiny....and I mean TINY bit of opal shimmer.....
This makes your brown.

Good luck lol,

Good luck lol,

Thanks for the recipe, yes my kit came with a brown powder but unfortunately it doesnt come with a spoon! Any chance you could measure how many of the nsi spoonfulls fills a 'cooking' tsp? I could work it out then. I have had a go since with custom blending using a cnd recipe and converting it but so far it's still too pale.

Cheers

Definately not the right colour on the nailbed. This was a premixed opaque colour from nsi so now I'm experimenting with custom blending. Hopefully I'll get something a little more natural next time

Regarding too much product in zone 2 - here's a side piccie (a bit fuzzy but it does give a better view)

How's that? In reality they look quite flat to me, but that may be because I'm not used to my nails being so long. I forgot that by extending the nailbed the overall length would have to be a lot longer to get any 'free edge' in :)

Cheers

Try a little more brown to warm it up...a little at a time...

Thanks, my mix looks quite beige at the moment so do you think I should boost up the red as well as the brown to save it looking even more beige. I know this mix is supposed to be neutral and then you either add red to make warmer or add purple to make cooler but I'm not so sure it should really start out beige.

Cheers

Ok...erm...beige I am checking my notes from my "geeky file" lol
And can see blue undercuts any orange tones....
beige is sort of orangey based isnt it ? try a smidge of blue...again just add a little at a time,

I love making mixes lol...my table ends up covered in powder pots and nail tips with blobs on lol..

So blue to cut out some of the beige...then brown to warm it up...possibly a tiny bit of red too...

(is there any way you can test the bead on something clear, then hold it next to your skin tone for a pic ? )

Oooo and ..one ting to watch with the blue, is speckles ! My old mix had blue in, and every so often I would get the odd annoying speckle when doing nails lol...VERY annoying :D

On the side shot, they still look a bit bulky to me in zone 2, but it could be that your natural nails are naturally very curved. I find that a pic taken of natural nails before any work is done really helps so that it can be compared with the after shots. x
