:eek:Hello Everyone

First, I would just like to say i absolutely LOVE this site -its so informative and helpful, I have been lurking about for a while, and although I haven't posted anything, have thoroughly enjoyed myself. So it now necessary for me at once to apologise for my very first question being, how shall I say, not quite Kosher....

To cut a long story short, I have recently moved to Spain from England, and my Nail stuff has been in storage for a few months. Having just done my conversion to Creative L&P course, I am now of course eager to get practising. I dont know that many people in Spain yet, so am thrilled to have found someone to be my first "model" and she's coming on Monday morning. I have been busy getting my spare bedroom converted into "Casa Carolina" my home salon, and am now in a state of despair as I have discovered a very strange phenomenon has taken place - all of my glues/resins have set hard and fast in their containers - AARRRGGGG! This includes: 1 unopened bottle of Backscraters Stikr, 1 opened bottle of the same, 2 unopened client sized tubes of the same, the Gel Bond (new and unopened) I only received last week on my conversion course, and the Speedbond from the same course - how weird is that!!! They have been stored in a drawer, not near any heat sources (including the sun) and I am completely flummoxed:!:

I am unable to get hold of any "proper" products before my client comes, and I really dont want to put her off (shes going back to England for a trip on Tuesday and is really looking forward to getting her nails done), so in sheer desperation was wondering if anyone had ever used SuperGlue on tips?

Any advice hugely appreciated
Thanks
Caroline

You absolutely should not use Super Glue on a persons body apart form which, it will not do the job you want it to do.

Super Glue is INDUSTRIAL GRADE ADHESIVE and not meant for use on the human body. it is METHYL cynoacrylate and is carcinogenic as well as water soluble ... turns yellow ,,, breaks down very quickly.

In the nail industry we use (in the case of CND) pharmaceutical quality ETHYL cynoacrylate which is formulated for use on the body, is not carcinogenic and ages far less quickly being of suprerior quality and a different formulation.

It sounds as if your adhesives were in a damp place. Moisture can cause adhesives to go hard even in capped bottles.

You will have to put your client off or go to a local nail salon and buy some proper adhesive from them. Or SCULPT. You see ... when you can sculpt then you never have these problems. You can also apply tips tith a small bead of L&P ... you will have to hold each tip in place and still for at least 45 seconds before letting go.

DONT use super glue it will burn your clients nail aww i know cause when i was about 13 i tried it!! not good YOU MUST NOT USE IT.

Thanks very much for the replies - yes, now I know I will definitely NOT use superglue!! Gosh, the burning sounds awful - SO glad I asked..... The only person who I know I could ask to buy some from is closed on Mondays, and the person who trained me is away at the moment. No problems though, disaster now safely averted, we shall just have to wait.

Any nail adhesive (even the correct kind) can have a burning reaction if you use too much of it!! The reasons fornot using super glue are important.

Ive heard on here before of somebody applying tips with acrylic rather than adhesive, never tried it myself, but this may be another option.

Dont know what other geeks views of this way will be,would be interesting to know though.

Absolutely Gigi the reasons for NOT using super glue are very valid, and i thank you for taking the time to explain them.

Actually, having just come back from a lovely walk with the dogs on the beach, and now in a much calmer state of mind, I am fairly surprised with myself for having debated the whole superglue scenario. In all my time in the industry I have never used (never needed to I suppose) anything other than the "prescribed" product. I guess it was just a case of my mind desperately trying to think outside of the box to avoid being stuck in a corner (no pun intended..)

In fact, with that wonderful vision of hindsight and knowing what I now know, I guess I am actually feeling quite foolish for having asked the question the first place......:o

I live in the costa blanca near torrevieja. I will soon be supplying all hair and beauty products including NSI. If you PM me your details I will send you more info as soon as my new business get moving.

Good luck with your first set over here :)

Hi Hun,
I use a small amount of L & P to attach tips when putting them on my own nails........I don't like nail adhesive on my own nails, it works really well. Gigi should know........so take her very good advice. She did tell me once this is how they used to apply the tips before nail adhesive was out there for us to buy. You will really get a good result. I am sure your client will not notice that you are doing anything different.....If she does tell her this is your preferred method of tip application.
Gigi is right though.........sculpt and this would not even be an issue.
Good luck with which ever method you use.........Congrats too on your new salon.
Lotsa luv x
