Hi,

After deciding that I am starting up again (trained in CND) I am waiting for my products to be delivered. I always used to use tips and never had a problem with them on clients or on myself. I have bought some forms so that I can practise sculpting on my own nails but I can't for the life of me put them on without a gap underneath. Can anyone give me any tips on fitting forms on your own nails?

Sculpting on yourself is so much easier and faster than applying tips, IMO anyway :wink2:

When you remove the form from the backing paper take the circle bit and stick it to the back of the form for extra stability, roll the form in between your fingers to get a better fit (this also removes some of the stickiness which helps too) and then the fun begins with the fitting lol...

hey im not much of a pro im just going to start traing with cnd myself which my mum did but i have had a mess around and watch her do loads of nails etc how about using the wooden sticks that you get with manicuring kits to push it up to th bottom of your nail or you can get a light temporary glue which might help it stay where you want it

hope this helps :)

What forms do you use? I have just got the basic horseshoe ones which come off the backing ready to be used, don'g have to pop anything out

I used to only use tips on my own nails....

until I wanted to do some practise sculpting....
I figured if I could apply the forms and sculpt on my own nails then I could damn sure do it on clients....

and I found it so much easier....eventually...

I too went through so many forms...I just could not get it right, that is until I remembered I had to do what Sandi has just described...
then after a couple of tries it clicked in place....!
The CND forms are great though....so that helps....

I still use tips....but for myself....I only sculpt now ( until I bite them off...which is another problem altogether  )

Credit to you....I really don't think I could use a horseshoe form ever again, they are instruments of the Devil
Most companies now have forms with wings/tabs...CND Performance forms, EzFlow Forms and of course :o: Nfu.Oh forms which also come in 3 different types for round, oval and square nails.

Hi,
I too used to only tip... but i had a go at some stilhetto's on my self and was suprised at how much easier it was... i too had trouble with the forms... but i used CND and they are brilliant... much firmer than the horse shoe one... i found it easier to place it right under the free edge and pull it hard toward and then down a little... (some hurt they were so tight).. i also did one at a time so it didnt move...
hope that helped a little

Again i can only reiterate what sandi said...i tried to use a little blue tack underneath aswell, but this was rather fiddly so i did what sandi said and works well for myself...i just LOVE sculpting,i have picked it up quicker than tipping which is another issue for myself altogether:eek:

The forms i use are ezflow, they are fab,but i am sure CND and others are good,as for horseshoe forms i agree with Izzi...lol

So do you mean that I should actually fold the rounded free edge back on itself so that I have a square end (iykwim). Do you think I should just get some other forms then and ditch the horseshoe ones??

I also use the CND Performance forms, I find them really easy to use and give a good shape. I certainly couldnt use the horseshoe ones!! xx

Right, I have just ordered some of the CND performance ones. What a waste of money. I might just se the horshoes ones for practising the fitting on my nails!!

Definitely ditch the Horseshoes lol!!!
Here is a pic of the kind of forms I mean......with wings.
Acrylic Form with wing (Round) 100 roll at Affiniti

Once applied these kinds of forms keep in shape for a perfect c curve. Yes they are more expensive than horseshoes, but they save you time and your sanity!!!

As far as the original question goes I have now and again sculpted my left hand with my right, then tipped my right hand as I have to do it with my left. No one has yet noticed as the finished look is the same.

Why would you think they were a waste of money ?? The Performance forms are absolutely first class.

Horse-shoe forms give the worst results of any sculpting form. They encourage fan shaped nails and don't hold any kind of a C curve at all. Pants.

Perhaps you don't know how to use the Performance forms? If you fold them correctly and apply correctly you will get a perfect C curve and a nice straight barrel to work on instead of a cone shape. They are very firm with or without the extra reinforcement of the 'round bit' and are Teflon coated for a super shiny under surface and easy removal.

Thats a fact.

I wasn't using them correctly either. I was just peeling them off and applying instead of folding the perforated edges first and then peeling the backing off. As you pointed out to me last week Geeg.

I found by doing it this way makes the forms more ridgid hence allowing you to fit them snug under the free edge.

Thanks for a great day last Thursday Geeg it was very good of ya to take time out. Hope y'all enjoyed the birthday party,

Me not explaining myself. I meant that the horseshoe ones were a waste of money and that I have ordered some CND ones instead. So hopefully I will find them a lot easier.

I'm loving those forms Izzi. By the way, you never said we could tip one hand and sculpt the other when i was training!!:)

:o:...in my defence lol we did tend to concentrate on doing the clients nails rather than our own in training!!
I hope you threw your Horseshoes away !! ;)

Like the Red Bull ad...everything is much better with wings....especially forms!

Have just folded my horseshoe form over and I have managed to get it to fit!!!! only one nail though, haven't tried the others. It has made it a lot better though. my products have come today but I have to go and collect them tomoz. Gutted, I so wanted to have a go tonight! I am really hoping that I haven't lost too much of my skill!

Lesley, I prefer to sculpt my nails, much quicker and easier IMO, I use forms with wings. I have found the best way for me to apply them to myself is to balance my elbows on the table, I pre roll my forms to create a saddle and only if necessary tear the perforation for a wider finger, then slip my finger through the hole, wiggle one edge into position and then manovour to ensure the form is snug under the natural nail or butted up to the existing enhancement. I then firmly press the form with my thumb and index finger parallel to the side of the finger I am applying the form to so that it does not move, then continue to match the lower tabs. Oh my sometimes I feel soooo uncoordinated and I am sure my face tells a story, just as well I do this out of salon hours:lol:
