Hmmmm, I think I need to move to Queensland where the humidity is higher than Melbourne... maybe then my nails will finally be super long :green:

The image clearly shows the 3 main layers of the nail plate. This demonstrates how the lower layers are much 'younger' that the upper layers (see growth of the nail plate from the matrix in Doug Schoon's and my books).

It also shows how 'horny' the upper layers are. When the nail suffers from peeling (Delamination) the weaker and more flexible layers are exposed.

Also, I believe it shows that nails should NOT be filed to shape after a water soak. They are easier to cut when soft which can be useful for thick brittle toe nails but not during a manicure when they should be shaped before any soaking
