Hi All,

I wonder if some of you skin geeks could just confirm something for me please....

"Freckles are only pigmentation from sun damage" am I correct in thinking this?

A lady I know who is 65 said she had freckles as a small girl and a young lady but has lost them all as she has got older - how does this happen?

Thanks in advance,
Emma xx

Freckles are pigmented skin cells. Fair haired people tend to have freckles as they have less melanin in their skin cells. As we get older our bodies produce more melanin due to sun exposure etc... If it's produced evenly then freckles can actually disappear.
The sun will make freckles darker but come winter a lot of peoples freckles disappear and then come back in the summer.
