I have been out of the nail ind for a couple of years but am keen to get back into it. When I am ready and have updated myself does anyone or has anyone ever offered a free service apart from fam & friends. I really need to get doing as many sets as I can but are limited into how many people I know want their nails to be messed with!! Sadly most of them have georgeous talons!

I was thinking of say fly dropping leaflets in my area and doing the usual local advertising for guinea pigs - as I am practicing should I charge or not?

NB my advertising wont cost me anything fortunately as my hubby sorts ths for me?

Any thoughts????? :!:

I have mixed feelings about charging when you're practising, even if it's just to cover your material costs, I must admit, although we're often encouraged to. It depends on what your work is like, but that's just my opinion, and I know there are valid arguments against this on here.

If you're well on the way to producing a halfway wearable set, then that doesn't seem so unreasonable. When it comes to absolute novices fresh out of foundation type courses, though, I tend to think that it's a bit of a cheek to request anything much at all in return for hours of just sitting there, only to emerge as the owner of what can often amount to something resembling a miniature set of badly iced Christmas cakes on the ends of their fingers. They then have to either suffer the embarrassment of wearing them or sit there yet again to have them soaked/buffed off. :irked: I think they're doing 'Us' a favour and not the other way around, if I'm honest, in those circumstances.

If you want to get as many guinea pigs through the door as possible, then make it as attractive a prospect to them as you can, by whatever means. Just make it clear that it's a limited offer for a certain period only. Good luck! :)

Thank you for your valued advice. I agree with you and feel a bit cheeky asking for payment when they are letting me practice on their nails but Im happy with the nails I produce and have still been doing my own even though Ive not been in the industry for a bit. I may just request a small charge , just to cover petrol and materials and make sure that it is only for a limited time only. Its just to get me through a rusty patch.

Thanks again, much appreciated

If you're happy that your nails are still respectable, then that's fine. They are still getting a proper service and should expect to pay something for it. Hope you get lots of little piggies banging on your door! x

Although I don't wear enhancements as a rule, if you struggle for models etc., I am not too far away from you in Altrincham. I could maybe come over for you to practice on.

i cant wear enhancements hun, or id come to you for you to practice on, but a geek gave me s few ideas as i am too struggling to get anyone to practice on, they suggested putting flyers up in local mother and toddler groups, as they may well like the idea of cheap pampering (i know i would have when my little uns were tiny) and also ask the local college uni can you advertise, espiecially right at the mo hun, its the start of prom season, id get yourself out there, plenty of young girls will come to you im sure

fingers crossed hun, let us know how you get on xxxx

Thats great, Ill get in touch if im struggling. Thanks hun x.

your welcome hun, let me know how you get on xxxx

Hi, I'm in a similar position, doing a Masters Course starting on 18/5. I have put posters in the staff room of my local Tesco, British Home stores & Smiths but have not received any reply's. I have a nail trainer, but it is not the same as the real thing. Let me know how you get on.

Its a tricky one isnt it!!! I've also got a nail trainer but never got to grips with it. Its nothing like the real thing. Mine looks like its been in an accident!!

Will let you know how I get one.
