hi guys,

just wondered if anyone can help me,

i have been doing nails from home for a long time but i am just about to start working self employed in a salon and want to buy a whole nail polish collect, but dont want to spend an absolute fortune on it, i want to offer the polish free to take home with them after their manicure, so i either want mini polishes or just some that are not really expensive to buy.

i wanted to do this so i dont end up with all the same colours all the time and also for when they get half way through they dont look good on the shelf. i though it would be nice for them to take away and means i can keep buying new colours for each season without spending lots of money.

anyone know any decence not so expensive ranges or mini/smaller bottles?

any feedback would be great, thanks

Its a nice idea but i find that clients come to me because they either cant paint their own nails or cant be bothered,
i have even offered to lend polishes when i knew they had an important event or holiday and i have only once had a client take me up the offer,
be careful as you may do this and end up with lots of polishes in the same shade and no takers, hth

i think opi do mini bottles.

Sounds a bit of a crazy and costly idea to me! Thing is if your going to buy them cheap enough that you can give them away then the quality and durability of the polish is going to be rubbish and if you dont do a great polish job then what's the likelyhood they will come back again???

You need to ring Graftons to order them

hi guys, hi at the spa I work in we use jessica, there distribution is through a company called gerrard they offer the midi (smaller) bottles however they don't offer every single colour, so ur hope of changing through seasons wldnt give u much range. At work it works well clients enjoy getting their colour but were a spa and nails isn't a regular treatment, like someone said most of the time clients come to u as they cnt do nails themselves, I've just bought all creative to use from home and I questioned getting small bottles but like my boyfriends mum said she has so many of the same colours from when she's had her nails done at the spa, that its a waste! And she doesn't do her nails herself. Orly and opi and essie also offer small bottles though. X

oh thats a great help everyone thanks, i will have a look at the orly and opi.

i already order my nail bit from graftons anyway so i will have a look, i will have some of the mini polishes on display and will use some of my normal size opi's, for people who would rather not keep their polish, and will just replace the mini ones as and when i use them, would be quite handy if i can get them from graftons as i order off them every few months anyway.

thanks again

I too would think carefully about giving them away for free...
It is a lovely gesture and I can see what you are saying,
But for example if you just do a file and polish then give away a mini enamel depending what you charge, that could be a hefty chunk of your income for that file and polish, it would make it not worth doing imo..

And there are not many people who would say 'no thankyou I won't have that free enamel'
They will probably take it, be very thankfull, but then leave it sitting in a drawer somewhere never to see the light of day again.

It is a waste of your money

I would use it as a perfect retail oppertunity instead... you use the larger bottles, then explain how you retail smaller bottles, that are perfect for touch ups or further applications and VERY reasonably priced and much more economical as they are less likely to waste it

x

thats great thanks very much,

no i wouldnt be giving it away with just a file and polish, if they then want to take it home they can add a couple of quid if they want to buy it, but if not it wont take long to use up,(i hate seeing half empy bottles lol) i would only give it to them for free with a manicure and my prices cover it.

i will also sell them for just retail its perfect for clients who have little girls to buy for, it worked really well in our other salon having smaller bottles and bigger bottles, giving them a choice on how much they want to spend on a polish, i just cant remember what make it was we used, (was a few years ago now lol and it wasnt me who ordered the stock i just worked there) they were lovely, i just like to change all the time so perfect for me to have mini bottles.

thanks everyone for your help x x

No one on this professional site would recommend buying products from Ebay!
Buy them from an official wholesaler

Never buy pro products from Ebay. You have no idea how old the product is or how it's been stored, both of which have an impact on performance which is crucial in a salon. There is also the risk that the product is fake or illegally imported.

Buy from your UK distributor and be confident in its quality .

OPI do LOTS of different ranges for all different seasons and trends and ORLY do minis! x
