Hi

I know a lot of you on here dread doing a french polish. I have just been looking at some videos on the internet to get some tips and saw one where they basically plonk the white on and then use a brush and acetone to create the smile line. I have just tried this and it has worked really well.

I just wondered what peoples thoughts are on this method, would you think it's unprofessional to do this or does it not matter as long as the end result is good

Look forward to hearing your thoughts!

I think it is a totally unprofessional and unskilled way of doing a French manicure that poses a risk to both the product and to clients skin through over exposure or the drying affects of Acetone.

If you want a really professional and perfect result without any risks then try the new and fabulous Dashing Diva French Wraps + which have been mentioned allot here on the site recently.

Dashing Divas are like a coat of paint that has already been done perfectly for you. Apply it where you would apply paint and it creates a perfect result and looks professional.

I have to say I also think it looks unprofessional. You need to practice and practice and eventually it will be like 2nd nature and you will wonder why you couldn't do it.Practice on anyone that will let you, remove and do again and keep doing it.Some like to brush downwards to create their smile line but I prefer to sweep from the left to the middle then from the right to the middle.

This is Dashing diva .. how cool and simple, fast & easy.

Take a LOOK.

Fab idea, are these from Sweet squared?

I bought them from S2 - they do them in a thick band and a thin band and they're really good. Put them on with a bit of glue, buff them a little and pop some base and top coat over. I use them with Shellac and they look great, but so does the cream puff Shellac. Just another tool to add to our boxes I guess (ever expanding tool box in my case!!) HTH's

Thanks for that,I was at a Creative training school on monday and didn't see any of them, mind you I didn't know they existed so probably wouldn't have noticed even if they were there, lol.

I badly want the Shellac kit,got to save my pennies.Have Shellac on right thumb and Minx on other and both are still perfect from Monday.Loving it totally and fab idea about putting the Dashing Diva under the Shellac. Thanks again.:D

Hi, just looking for some advice and you seem to have experience in both. I just ordered the Shellac system and training, i can't wait to start using it, from reading the reviews on the forums, everyone seems to adore it. Anyway, I want to offer another service with the shellac, so, my query is...given the choice can anyone shed some light on the differences between Dashing Divas and Minx? Are they similar? What do clients seem to prefer? Which is easier to use?

I think you need both as they are entirely different.

Minx nail veneers are instant nail art which is chic and beautiful .. not tacky looking and wears for weeks and weeks on toes and about a week on nails as a fashion accessory.

Dashing Divas are a quick and easy way to apply a long lasting and perfect French manicure polish.

Two completely different looks and two completely different products. I would say most salons that use one also use the other.

A French polish is by far my most popular treatment, because of this I can do they quickly and really well, cos I've had so much practice! I think the secret is to move the clients finger as much as you can, rather than moving your brush, then you are guaranteed a straighter line.

I am now introducing dashing diva to my treatment list, too.

The only problem with dashing diva is the wider ones are still not wide enough for me personally, and some of my clients who prefer a longer free edge - I am wondering if they will bring out an even wider size soon, which would be great, so in the meantime, I'm still painting French!!!

I rarely ever work with polish, so I'm one of those lame tech's that can't do a perfect line :( I'm very used to cleaning my line up with sanitizer when working with gels, so I use the same method with polish. However, I don't smear the polish all over the client's fingers like they show in the video. I try to make my lines, and then clean it up a bit with polish remover if I mess up and that's it.

The dashing diva wraps are beautiful! I'll check out what their prices are, because I very much rather use those. I only do polish work when the other manicurists are booked and I always cringe when they ask for french. This will be a fabulous tool for me :D

Thanks for that guys, I will deffo look into getting the Dashing Divas in. I am surprised to see the amount of you in the same boat as me...dreading french polish!! I don't feel like such a failure anymore. I'm based in Dublin and can't find a supplier of Dashing Diva, would you recommend me ordering them from S2 in the UK? Are they foolproof, or would i need training etc? Difficult to get here?

Well, I'm slightly offended :o (LOL) as I take every treatment I do seriously and PROFESSIONALLY. I'm sorry if you feel that the French manicure is unprofessional by using acetone to do your lines, but I use this method and it was taught to me by a highly acclaimed Nail Professional ;). I don't however slap my white polish on. I apply two thin coats and get it right in the corners of the nails. I will then use acetone to adjust and correct my lines. I am always careful not to overload my brush or my clients nails with acetone. My nails look lovely and my clients are more than happy with what I do. So I think its each to their own. With regards to Dashing Diva Nails they are absolutley Fab. They are easy to use once you have praticed with them. I got mine from S2 and arrived the next day. I have been using these more than doing my own 'french' and will continue to do both. I agree with having a wider smile also plus you can't use these on everyones toes as some are just not big enough, so please bring some out.:D
