I know that there is not a knack to it, its just practice like anything.
BUT....
I really dont like doing french on fingernail (as in polish not acrylic), I can never get a perfect smile line and do sometimes get the brush strokes showing. I get SO stressed when doing them.

I have a party to do in a few months and they want fingers and toes doing. I have never done a french on toes before, Im thinking its gonna be really hard as there is basically no free edge and the polish is just going to go all over the sides of the toes.

Help me please, any advice what be duly welcome.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

When I do a french polish I start in the middle of the nail and slide the brush sideways rather that up and down. I start from the middle to the left hand side then go from the right hand side all the way along to the left this will avoid brush marks that up and down the nail can give you. Don't worry about getting polish on the nail when you are starting best thing to do is let the polish dry and then open a cotton wool pad in the middle run an orange woodstick along to catch a small amount of cotton wool put nail polish remover on the cotton wool and this will allow you to remove the polish from small areas around the nail without touching the polish on the nail :)

look up french tip dip on google watch the video of the product online think its like £15 it's great i use it as im useless at french!!

Get yourself some CND Nailfresh from Sweet squared 0845 210 6060

It is the best thing for tidy smiles and cleaning polish from the skin. Just use and old acrylic brush, dip it in, wipe round the smile and wipe the brush. It evaporates so quickly that no olish is smudged or disturbed - HTH

I can't work out how people cut and paste threads on here so if you go to the search bar at the top of the page and type in "Can your turn out a professional polish". On page 6 of this thread there is a video by someone called Nailzoo and he is showing how to do a french polish. He is showing you on acrylic nails I think but it works really well on natural nails too.

French polishes in polish give me nightmares too, but if you try it this way it works so well and toes are easy to do this way too. Hth. xxx

My french polish always goes over the sides of the toes hun (the white) You just clean it off with polish remover.
I am not far from you (just off of the brighton rd) and would be happy to help you with practising out if you want to come to me?

Hi, I use Essie's Marshmallow for the white. It's the BEST white polish I've ever used and I've NEVER had any streaking. Also, I start at one corner, roll the finger with my polish brush on the nail and end up at the other corner. It's the easiest way I've found to do a french.

HTH and good luck! :)

Once you go over your work with a top coat you'll find the top coat refines and blends any noticeable brush strokes. The top coat helps give the white an even tone.

I have been known to cheat when doing a french and use Stargazer Nail Art pens - the bush is really thin and straight so it's SO much easier to do the white tips!:)

Hi.

SpaRitual has a lacquer called French White Tip, the brush is smaller so it makes the smile line easier to achieve also the plum cap makes it easier to hold the brush making the precision that bit easier as well. =)
