I work from home and suffer with a cough once I have completed a nail set.
Does anyone know where I can get a fume extractor, that I can plug in and sit on top of my nail desk to take away the fumes.

Thanks

I have the Fuminator from NSI nails and it works wonders for me Fuminator - Nail Systems International(UK) if i don't use it I get hay fever type symptoms from the filing dust. As an added bonus it is very light, quite small and comes with a bag so that you can take it with you on mobile appointments.

hope that helps

apparently none of them work ........ or so i've been told (no matter what they say)

I have a salon with a flat above, and the tennants are saying they can now smell the fumes.
I have 2 extractor fans going all the time, but I'm looking for an air purifier that will remove the smell as well, so if anyone has any recommendations I'd be glad to hear of those too!!:green:

I know I'm going to sound picky but we do not create fumes in the nail industry, we create vapours and the vapours can smell. The difference is that a fume is particle carried in smoke (like a car exhaust) and a vapour is the evaporation of a liquid (like perfume).

Anyway, the best way to remove the smell? Work carefully and follow these guidelines:

- Do not wipe your brush on your working towel, instead dampen a gauze pad with sanisiter (like Scrubfresh) and wipe your brush on that. The scrubfresh will draw the monomer from your brush and trap it there so it can't spread and evaporate.

- Only put the amount of monomer you need for that client into your dappen dish when you need it. If you leave monomer uncovered in a dish it will evaporate.

- Put all waste into a lidded metal bin and empty it frequently.

If you do these 3 things you will dramatically reduce the odour when you work. Combine it with extraction ventilation and you will have no smell.

The fuminator from NSI does remove dust but not really vapours.
As Vetty has said...if you work carefully you will minimise any vapours...NOT FUMES!!

I'm sure it will be dust that is causing irritation to your chest and not vapours.

Air purifiers will not work.

You need to extract the dust from your working area or learn not to make any.

Masks can be useful to wear but these must be good ones that are effective.

there are plenty of posts about eliminating dust etc. Do a search and have a look.

Not all filter/extraction systems deal with the vapours.

I supply a filter system which removes the vapours and the dust.

Apart from the irritation there are health considerations, more information can be found on my web site.

I checked the site out of curiousity.
No mention of vapours. Plenty of mention of 'gases' which we don't produce....
There is a distinct difference.

Ok, I'm busted..... most especially since I quit smoking.. plumbing has gone awry.
