Gel and Shellac starter kits

Hi. I am new to nails and so my first question is what is the difference between gel and shellac?

Secondly i have seen starter kits on amazon has anyone bough these. What do you think of them? Which are the best ones to get? Do gel and shellac need the same uv cabinet?

Gel is quite a vague term as there are so many products around. Hard gel can be used to do extensions, gel polish it just to provide a long lasting colour and shellac is a hybrid product which is a mix of gel and normal polish which again just provides a long lasting colour.

I use Denise Taylor Gelamor Gel polish which is a fantastic professional product.
