hi all (from Ireland),

Currently I'm doing a 4-day gel nail course that consists of 2 days one week and other 2 days in two weeks time, 4th day is an exam.
I've done first two days so far and now I'm supposed to be practising, i.e. doing 10 sets of nails on 10 different people in 12 days?!?! :(
and so, here is the problem:
*** course description doesn't mention anything about the wast amount of models required, it just states that a model is a must for exam day; ok, that's fine, I can get one girl for the exam, but 10?!? I wouldn't even considering booking this course if I knew this before.
and now these other ten models is the problem - I'm not irish and my family is left behind somewhere else in europe, so I can't use nails of my mom, sister, aunty etc to practise; and also I'm working in pharmaceuticals where make-ups, fake nails and even nail varnish is a big NO NO, so my workmates are not an option too. so all I have left is people that I don't really know, friends of the friends, their relatives or similar, and here comes another problem:
*** I have no insurance to go out and do nails on the wide public, because I have no cert yet, and to get a cert I have to do those 10 sets of french that nobody likes anymore - I'm in the loop. And what if something goes really wrong? I'm too terrified to do their nails!

and I'm actually shocked by the standard of the course. On first two days we (6 girls in my class) had done 5 our nails each, with little or no supervising. Our trainer would should how to do a nail this or that way and then leave us do how we imagine it and herself would sit in the corner texting on her phone. You have to get really loud to get her attention. She showed no interest in what we were doing and how we were doing. Not a word about file control, and according to her - putting more gel on the stress area is "building a c-curve", forgive me if I'm wrong, but I always thought it was an apex, and c-curve was when looking "down the barrel". So, after gathering "big bags" of knowledge and essential skills how to do perfect gel nails, we are now sent off to do 10 sets and bring her photos of our work. What can you say about how good nails are done by looking at the blurry picture??
btw I'm doing this course out of curiosity, I have no plans to change my permanent job and go be a nail tech at least not for next 2 years. I was expecting to learn something new and get some good tips. so far the only new thing to me is that you have to blunt the edges of the new file before you start using, that's all. everything else I knew already, I learned from books, internet, forums etc. argh what a waste of money!!! sorry for my endlesss rant but I'm really angry and feel mislead by inacurrate course description and the standard of the course itself.

If I were you I would contact the course tutor /whoever runs the course and outline your problems to them. I think I would want a refund to be honest based on the fact that the teaching by the sounds of it is not up to standard and the actual description of the course was not properly explained.
Good luck
If you do get a refund, I suggest doing a CND course you wont be dissapointed in the slightest.

sorry to hear bout your course, the only idea ive got for your pratice problem is 2 buy a pratice hand from essential nails, you can get them off a well known auction site, they have clip on nails, excellent for practicing. sorry i cant help anymore. xx

it actually says in the course description that we would be practising on those fake hands at the beggining but we haven't seen them yet and not likely to see them next time. it's good idea though.

I doubt if I'd get any refund from them, only cancellation fee is mentioned in terms & conditions and that's about 1/3 of amount I've paid them. I've got a gel set + uv lamp, that was included in the course price, so they probably would want to deduct that too, so I'd get next to nothing back.

ANOTHER SHOCKING TALE OF WOE.

The reputation of the training provider you choose is so important. I never understand why people do not consider this before sopending thier money.

Sorry to close but this post should be a BLOG.
