I have just done an infill on a clients natural nail and have experienced problems with the nail starting to flake and lift on a couple of the nails..I need advice please on how to prevent this happening..Is this a common problem? or is this a result of overbuffing when removing existing gel?

so is it the gel thats flaking and lifting....??? what area of the nail is it happening...??

If the gel is lifting then it could be prep, working too close to the sides/skin or if the nail is red from over filing the gel can tend to not adhere and pop off the nail plate in that area.

Are you talking about the natural nail flaking and lifting or the gel flaking and lifting? Bit confusing without a bit more explanation.

What gel are you using?

if you are talking about the gel flaking and lifting while you are buffing the gel ready for the infil with a soft soak off gel, then I used to have the same prob it was when I was blending the infil line. Make sure your cuticle area is thin and flush when you do the orignal overlay then you wont have to do much blending during infils, and make sure you are light with the file and use a soft abrasive. hth x

Thanks for your replies..It is the natural nail that is starting to lift on the free edge not the gel..Although this is making the end result look bad..This is the second infill on this client..Nightmare!!!! The products i am using are Empire nail products as i trained using these..x

if the gel is intact and not lifting how can you tell if the natural nail is flaking....??? do you mean the natural nail is coming away from the gel...like seperated....? if so this is usually because the free edge hasn't been capped enough or because you have capped it but then filed it away again when doing your final shaping.

Do you man Star nails from Empire Beauty? What is the BRAND of nail products you are using?

Is the natral nail seperating from the nail bed ?
(onycholysis) or is it the product lifting away from the nail ?
Is this on all the nails or just one?
