:cry:When i put on a gel over lay the area round the cuticle area and side wall is ok,but when i get to the free egde it lifts.I only put it on last nite.Should i apply a small tip?I do cap the free edge but it still lifts.Ive a cilent today wanting this done,i dont want to feel incompitent,as she wants to try a new nail tec.And keeps telling how good the other one is.Shes coming to me as she is a hairdresser and monday is the only day she can come. What can i do ? i use ibd or nobilty-lechat.tryed both of them.

Are you capping the free edge and sides of the free edge too? When you are refining the enhancement be careful not to file off the capped edge. I used to do this! Also filing them after the enhancements are complete will also cause the capped edge to be removed. Im wondering why she wants to try a new tech if shes happy with the previous one, no dis respect to you hun. unless her other tech is unable to do them? Id just be curious if this was me. Remain positive throughout  x

Yep,im doing all those thing but still lifting,so im stumpped. She wants to use me as she wants to advertize me in her salon. She wont put my cards in untill she has a treatment. She is ok as my daughter is doing her work placement with her.

How is your prep work? Touching the nails during the treatment will also deposit oil onto the nail plate and could cause lifting. Is this maybe happening? Prepping one hand at a time helps as the client can do what she wants with the one hand while you are working on the other. x

Is this happening when you apply a white tip area overlay or when you apply clear or colours?

have you tried freezecuring each finger first?

Whats freezecuring?

I only prep one hand at a time,to try and prevent and cross contamination.

Maybe give us a run down of all the steps you are doing to see if we can help you pin point something. x

Thanks for your help.
1,sanatize nail with nail prep
2,remove shine from nail,& dust & sanatize again
3,apply bonder, cure & wipe sticky off with lintfree wipe with nailprep
4,apply 1st coat of clear gel, capping,it.Cure for 3mins,wipe off with nailprep again, repeating this process 2x
5,After 2nd curing i buff the nail to make sure no imporfections,apply 3rd coat gel,cap & cure.wipe.
6,Apply ultra seal.cap side walls & free edge,cure.
7,Apply cuticle oil.

sounds like you are ensuring that all edges are being capped. x

yes,i do use ibd.

It is when you put the finger into the lamp for 10 seconds to stop the gel shrinking before you move onto the next finger (sometimes called flash cure too) it just locks the gel in place, before your final cure.

If it is IBD dont wipe bonder after it has been cured

The steps I use are:-

Prep
Apply bonder very sparingly - making sure you cap free edge, cure 1 min (do not cleanse at this stage) .. if you apply too much bonder this can cause lifting

Apply small size of builder gel, scrubbing into the nail plate capping free edge - do not cure

Apply builder gel, capping free edge
Cure now for 3 minutes

Cleanse

file if any humps or bumps to finish nail making sure to remove all dust - wipe with prep and allow to dry

Apply either intense seal and cure for 3 mins - no need to wipe with this

or ultra seal and cure for 1 min. xx

Apply small size of builder gel, scrubbing into the nail plate capping free edge - do not cure

Im thinking back to when i trained with ibd, I think this stage has to be cured. otherwise you are not working on any kind of foundation .. surely? the builder layer would just slip and slide over the uncured thin layer of gel.

You got me thinking now, just got my instruction book out and checked, no need to cure after first layer of builder - you are just laying down the foundation for the gel to self level better and make the surface smoother before applying the builder layer to build the stress area.

This is how I was taught with Ibd, but with other gels I use after applying the wetting layer I cure before applying the builder layer.

why on earth do u wipe after bonder? lol. who taught u that?!

its a wonder your gel is adhering at all!
