Currently i am in cosmetology school, and in my state i can work as a nail tech with my cosmetology license. I graduate in March and will also be taking my boards the week or two after graduation. I am currently working in a nail salon that offers gel nails, but do not get many clients who want them so i haven't seen my bosses do them. I will mainly be doing pedicures and acrylics along with regular manicures but i am interested in learning gels to broaden my education. In school they only teach you how to form a nail with no tip and it's only enough to pass at state boards along with all the sanitation and disinfecting. I have a UV lamp that i use my UV top coats with for my acrylics, and i have a clear gel and pink gel in IBD along with the bonder.. i am going to do a overlay on my nails but i was wondering if i need the IBD primer or dehydrator or can i use Scrubfresh and alcohol since they dehydrate the nail. I am new to everything dealing with gel so some help and advise would be appreciated. thank you.

A primer is different to a dehydrator so I would get the appropriate IBD primer for sure .. for the rest of the Prep, I have never had a problem using ScrubFresh with any system as a dehydrator/sanitiser.

Make sure your UV Lamp is also compatible with the IBD system. VERY important that the gel is fully cured with the right UV Lamp for the system.

Your eyes will not tell you if the cure is incomplete so you need the right equipment.

IBD definitely needs a primer in addition to dehydrating the nail.

I'd suggest taking a short UV gel nail conversion course to compliment your training. Research the various brands first and find out what type of gel you want (buff off or soak off) and then make some calls and find out the course pricing. Since you will need to purchase materials, make sure it's a brand you want to invest in (though all the product will get used over time, you want it to be a product you love.)
