My client recieved her first ever set of gel sculptured nails last night. She has contacted me to advise me that all her nails are burning! I have advised her to remove them immediately, cool her hands in cold water until the burning sensation has gone and apply aloe vera to sooth and calm her nails once the gel has been removed.

I have never experienced this before?

Does anyone know why this could be? I have used the exact same gel nails on several other clients with no bad reports (touch wood) The gel company I am using is NSI Scotland Balance UV Gels.

Kindest Regards,

If your client is not a nail technician how is she going to remove them herself safely ?

sounds like an allergic reation of some kind, hth

My client is away from home and unable for me to remove them for her.. I have therefore advised her to buff them off carefully as to ensure not to buff the natural nail.

She has contacted me to say that she has done this and thankfully the burning sensation has now gone.

I feel so bad for her as this is the first time anything like this has happened to both her and myself. She has had acrylic nails before with no problems.

I hope she didnt buff too much off. I had a friend remove her own once and OMG the mess was unbelievable. She thought she was helping me.

Deff sounds like allergic reaction.

I had a client a while back who was allergic to the gel and same thing happened with her but she also go very dry skin around her cuticle and under free edge.

I have to agree - it sounds like an allergic reaction. This is exactly what happened to me when I used gels. A few hours later they all burned like the ****ens - woke me out of a sound sleep.

Thank you for your comments my client's nails are fine and removed safely. She has eczema (although has had acrylic nails before) I have offered her an alternative treatment free of charge so as not to lose her custom or gain a bad reputation. I've previously given this client a body silk treatment (exfoliation) followed by a full body st tropez and found myself refunding her if full as the st. tropez didn't work on her skin :(

please dont take this the wrong way but, does she do this sort of thing often as it maybe that she just wants free treatments. a friend of mine is a nail tech working in a salon in dublin and she had never had any problems with her clients, anyway one client came back after having a set of gel nails done and told my friend that they popped off she had 2 nails left and they had been done the day before, anyway my friend did a full set free of charge and again the next day the same thing the client said that they popped off so again a new set was applied but this time my friend told the client if they start to lift come straight back, it turned out she was a picker and she was picking the nails off.

i think the point i am trying to make is dont get caught by giving too many free treatments or refunds.

Thank you megaone for your reply i will take on board all you've said, I've asked my client to chose an alternative treatment and she has yet to do so. As you know it is better to have a good reputation than a bad one, I will keep in mind your advice. Many Thanks, Jules

hey jules
Dont sweat it too much we all get clients where everything we do no matter how good at it we are, always seems to go wrong. dont be disapointed with gel it is an amazing medium to work with ans an allergy is a rare thing to come across, you will get 10 times more that love it than not!!

This sounds a tad callous but some people you just have to let go and dont worry about it, if you know you are doing your best you will be succesfull!!
