Use Calgel and recently had a client in who had really short nails. Therapist did gel overlays - one nail came off 2 days later and now 2 wks later most of the others came off.
Therapist told client she might not get a good result because of the shortness of her own nails but even so 2 weeks doesn;t seem very good for our reputation!
Any ideas what went wrong - what we could have done differently?

If they just 'fell-off' could be bad prep.

when you say the nails came off i take it you mean the gel came off the nail.... ?

It could have been the client....picking

It could have been prep making the gel lift off...

Calgel is a good brand of gel but its hard to say whats happened with so little information.

99% of the time it would be nail prep but it is also important to give good aftercare to make sure your client takes care the gels you applied at home; wearing gloves when washing up and cleaning ect. We really have no idea what out clients are putting there hands through when they leave us.

Thanks for all your advice. Yes I did mean the gel not the actual nails coming off!
Therapist prepped as usual so am thinking it shouldn't be that.
Who can tell what they do at home? Regardless - clients always think its our fault not theirs and as we all kinow the client is always right!!!
Thanks again - I'll double check ontheir prepping.

If the natural nails were very short maybe the technician did not cap them properly which would cause them to peel from the free edge.

Oh no, client isn't always right :green: Not in this business, they try but don't let them, unless you are not sure your tech isn't very good.

You say she prepped as usual, so if she doesn't usually have problems, then I'll bet it's the client.

Your tech should be able to see damage on the nails if material is forced off, but if she built them longer because the client wanted them to, and warned the client, again it's not your techs fault.

Be firm and don't let the client get away with it. Even back in the days where I was a completely new tech, NO nails just came off, they lifted, yes, but never just popped of when the client did nothing. Not even when on medication or anything.

So tell the client that this cannot be the case, and if there's a next time, have them come in and check the nails for damage.

Clients need to know from the outset that if their nails come off or have been removed in any other way than the right way (a professional service) then you WILL be able to tell. Once they know that, then they soon stop with the complaints and trying to get the freebies.

NOR should you explain how you can tell either. When you do that they pick off their nails and then try to buff them up so that their natural nails will look shiny and undamaged!! lol I've seen it all.

Clients are certainly not always right and you need to let them know that you know your stuff and will not put up with the ones who try it on. You don't have time for their games.

Unless a client had lifting in the very next few days and complained about it and came in to show me immediately, I would not entertain their excuses and my clients all know this. Now it seems that this lifting has occurred very soon after the service and in that case it is most likely down to who did the nails and not the client.

I have (almost) complete faith in the therapist - she does lots of them and no major complaints so far. Has been trained by Calgel.
Its actually the clients mother who is complaining even thought the client is an adult (and a paramedic) - and there is no way we are doing anything other than a complimentary removal of remaining nails + nail treatment.
HAve offered this to client but have not heard back from her.
The mother, however (another client who comes to the salon every 3 months or so for an eyebrow wax) is letting us know that she won't have them done and neither will any of her frineds! Don't you just love them!!
