Hiya!
Looking for a bit of advice please!
Which one is better? Going to be taking a course soon and dont know which one to do! I would like to know the difference between gel and acrylic nails, advantages and disadvantages etc!
Thanks in advance :D

Define better?

There are articles about which go through the differences.

Gel is non porous so it wont soak off in acetone (unless it is a soak off gel) it needs to be buffed off. Gel has little or no smell and the mix is already done for you. It is quite stickey though.

Liquid and Powder has an odour which some dont like, you need to know about the mix ratio and it soaks off in acetone (advantage and disadvantage)

To be an all round technician you need to be able to do both.

What course are you about to do?

I dont know which course Im going to do thats why Im asking the difference between the 2 as they are both offered.

Better as in most popular, easier etc? I know a few people who done gel nails but get no clients as people prefer the acrylic. And a nail tech I know will only work with gel.
So I dont want to do 1 course that isnt popular with clients and Iv ended up wasting money doing the course iyswim.

Do them both, it will be worth it in the end. THere will always be those die hards that have to have acrylic no matter what. And those people can be your mainstay in some cases. But in any case--a good tech should at least know how to do acrylic, gel, wraps, tips and sculpt. THis will help you expand your client base by being able to build a nail to suit anyone's needs. I offer both because I wanted to be able to offer all solutions for the clients requests.
Neither are better or worse for your nails, its how good they are applied and removed by the Tech and also what the client prefers and is most suitable for that client.
I originally trained in CND Acrylic and then a few years later trained in soak off gel (bio sculpture).

Ok thanks, well I definatly cant afford to do both. Not right now anyway so it will be 1 to start with then the other 6 months or so down the line.
Which one would be best to start off with?

I would start with Liquid and Powder and then if you stick with the same company, as you will have done lots of the prep work, a gel course would be a conversion possibly rather than a complete course again.

Great thanks, so acrylic first then I can do a conversion course for gel? If a conversion course is cheaper I may be able to get that done sooner rather than waiting a while!

Thanks for the help :)

Thats nonsence.

most popular - there is no such thing, as both systems are completely different and are designed to be used with different types of nails. Some clients simply would not suit one of them depending on many factors which will be explained to you during your training.

Easier - no such thing! If you want it easier - you might as well save yourself a hassle and dont do nails at all. You will not become a nail technitian over night and it will take years of practice to become a good nail technitian. Trust me we all been there. Patience, dedication, persistence and passion are the key ingredients plus a good training which does not come cheap. You get what you pay for !!!

People are not asking for acrylic or gel, they should be advised at the consultation whats best for their nails, lifestyle etc.

I would start with acrylic course, master that and then it will be easy to master gels.

I see you are in Edinburgh. Contact Fingertips Centre on 0131 333 3180
