I am looking to do a nail tech course and wondered which of the above systems would be the best to start off with. I am a mobile therapist and think that gel would probably be better for my clients (due to smell of acrylic??) however quite a few people have said that I should definitely learn L&P due to its popularity and that gel can be learned quite easily after this.
Thought I would ask the experts.

Popularity differs from area to area. I'm in an area where i am now getting asked for 50% gel and 50% L&P (Acrylic), but have just moved here, and previously in 2 years I only had 1 L&P client, and she switched to gel after seeing it on my nails anyway. Yet 5 years ago, no one did gel in that area. (Quite a lot of clients also thought they were getting gel....thanks to the local NSS questionable advertising policy)

Look at what the salons around you are offering, ask your existing clients what they have or would have. I wouldn't say gel is easy to learn after L&P.....may L&P techs can't get to grips with the different brush technique (although many do). That said I wouldn't say it was any easier the other way round either.....they are two very different systems and will require 2 courses.

The best advice I can give you, is choose a supplier that has strong products in both systems and you can embark then on a training program that will enhance your skills and not two different styles of prep, apllication etc...

Hi

Yes I was also wondering the best one to learn first.

I have had quite a few conversations with people on this including training schools.

Most seem to recommend L&P first and then moving onto the different methods i.e gel / fibreglass - although I do agree it really depends on individual client preferences and even area you live.

I have decided that I will probably do L&P first and then move on to the other methods at a later stage.
