I did a INM Out The Door acrylic course in October, was told that gel would go over this acrylic - that it was interchangeable. I put IBD gel over a clients acrylic on Friday, Saturday she called me to say that it was peeling off. So I tried it on myself and it did the same thing. Anyone have any suggestions/help??? Thanks, Lisa

Gel will not stick to a shiny area so you must not buff with anything smoother than a 180 board before applying gel. If this wasn't the problem then I am stumped! One of the gel geeks will be along soon! :)

I buffed some of the acrylic off as I was doing a maintenance then finished with a 180 file on the top of the nail and shaping - I also put new bulbs in my light the week before this happened. I am wondering if I have done something wrong or the "new" bulbs I bought are just no good? I am so frustrated right now:(

Some brands don't mess well with others! That could be the problem!?! :| You might want to take all the acrylic off if you are going to use gel!

after filing the acrylic did you then clean the nail with a nail plate cleanser such as scrubfresh? This removes dust and any traces of oil that may have been transfered back onto the nails from being touched by your own fingers for example.

which of the ibd gels did you use? remember the ultra seal only needs a minute curing & then clensing but intense seal 2-3 mins & no cleansing

Hi love! I am an INM Elite Educator and would love to help. INM products are often interchangeable with other products, but there is always an exception to the rule! When applying gel over acrylic, I will shape the enhancement with a 100 grit file, dust it off, and then apply a clear glaze or clear gel over it. It is recommended by my educator that you do not go lower than a 150 grit file before adding gel to an acrylic enhancement as this gives the gel a really rough surface to hang on to.

Hope this helps!

Am I misunderstanding you, Mel?

You say not to use a file lower than 150 grit but earlier in the post you say you use 100 grit?? Did you mean higher rather than lower? Can you clarify for us please?

Giggle giggle - I always have trouble when talking about grits. I would use a 100 or 150 grit file - no smoother. Hows that? I honestly confuse myself when talking about grits - makes me feel silly - but my brain gets addled when I think about higher and lower - it just doesn't want to compute that the lower the number the higher the grit!

Thanks guy's for all of your feedback, very much appreciated!! I tested my own nails yesterday and the file grit was definately the problem! I was using a 180 so the surface was just to smooth to stick! I love this site, I don't know what I would do sometimes without the help received here - Thanks again!
