Hi Everyone

Im in the prcess of starting up my own business from home so i practiced a set of gel nails on my brothers girlfriend. After just a few days she said bubbles were appearing under them and they were breaking? I did everything i was supposed to so i dont know where I am going wrong. I use The Edge Gel so is my product crap or me?

hi, the bubbles sound like lifting maybe pocket lifting....its where an area of the gel isn't adhered to the nail and turns a paler colour to the rest due to air being under there....this is often caused by not prepping sufficiently or touching the surrounding skin.

who did you train with and how long ago...?

Danielle your profile hasnt been filled in enough for me to comment but as you only started doing nails last year I'd say its is down to your application. Talk us throught what you did

I trained with The Edge a year ago.

I prepped the nail first, file, cuticle work, buffing the nail, dehydrating the nail etc.

I then applied the tips and blended them in to the nail.

Applied my first coat of gel and cured for 3 mins, buffed them down to even out, applied second coat of gel and cured for further two mins, buffing them again and then my UV glosscoat and cured for two mins.

Thanks for the the help, its really disheartening when things dont work out the way you want. I just want to figure it out so it doesnt happen to a paying customer! :(

Is it possible that the bulbs in your lamp need changing ?

are you working the first layer of gel into the nail....? it shouldn't be applied like polish

also...i would build all your layers first before wiping and buffing to make smooth....its kind of a waste of time to do this in the middle when your going to add more gel....then only time you need to wipe and buff to smooth is prior to using the top gloss.

I dont think its the bulbs because its a brand new lamp and was the first time being used!

Thanks for the advice, ill keep practicing! :)

Just a thought.. are you stirring your gels madly before use? This puts air bubbles into the products. Gels should be folded gently before use to mix (like when you make a cake). Work first layer into the nail keeping it very thin, cure, apply second layer, cure, (apply sculpting layer if using, cure) or apply final layer, cure THEN wipe, file/buff. If you trained a year ago and are still using the same gels could be that they are old now and maybe you need new ones. I personally don't like
'Edge' products, I use Ezflow and LCN.

Hey thanks for the advice! I havent been stirring the gel, iv just been applying a bead of gel then working it in to the nail etc. The gel was brand new only opened. Im just worried now about doing them if i get a customer. Dont want them coming off after a few days :(

Were the nails long ?? because this can put pressure on them if they are too long and too thin.

Hi Danielle, if you have not looked at the nails yet, I suggest do so, often our models/clients interpretation differ from yours/ours.
Bubbles: maybe air trapped in your brush
solution: using tin foil or fibre free pad, work a little gel into your brush before application - ie season your brush so that the gel evenly coats all the brush hairs.
Breaks: nails too long for activity level or not building sufficient apex
solution: shorten nails, build apex- this should be located half way between the cuticle line and the extension edge.

bubbles do cause troubles and will create a weakness in the enhancement.
