I am qualified in acrylic extensions but I am thinking of doing gel extensions. My question is do I need to complete a training course to gain a qualification for insurance or could I buy the equipment and start doing them?
I hope I have explained this question ok!

The technique and composition of L&P and Gel are 2 completely different things.
You need to take a course to learn how to apply gel safely and properly.
If you had not learnt to apply gel in a course and you damaged a customer you would not be able to claim on your insurance.
Make sure that for each service that you offer your clients that you have the relevant qualifications.

Most insurance companies, including the Guild, will require you to have a qualification in gel in order to offer you cover.

Just from having seen my instructor demo it, then picking up a brush myself, I can say it's a LOT harder than it looks and I still consider myself to need practice....definitely get the training. The results will be worth it.
