Hiya everyone, need some help with Gellux!! Have lots of questions that need answering,
I am a mobile technician specialising in Gellux manicures however...

1. I do the Gellux procedure following the instructions and my course, however the Gellux brand state no chip and no wear for about 2-3 weeks, but I have had clients that a week in have chips , I advise wear rubber gloves when washings, but any other tips on there part or mine?

2. Also I have trouble taking the Gellux off resoluting in an hour just taking off! I file down top coat but sometimes go into the colour and then soak off remover on a pad with tinfoil but after 15 mins if removing tin foil and pads only the edges seem to flake off, any advise or other ways that help you remove?

3. I have the Gellux light the oval shaped one if that helps and I was wondering if that's just for Gellux ? Or if I can use it on other gels and techniques etc?

I think that's all the questions! Thank you all so much really need help! Xx

Hi Paige,

I have been using Gellux for a little while and am finding it okay, I hope I can helpf with your questions...

1. I am getting about 2 weeks without any chips etc, I recommend that my clients apply cuticle oil daily, wear gloves when cleaning and washing up. When you are applying make sure you seal the free edge and don't get any on the cuticle or surrounding skin as this will casue lifting/chipping.

2. Removing is taking me a bit longer than I thought. I file over with 180 grit file, again make sure you remove all of the top coat. I use foil parcels, and have the shiney side on the inside (hope that makes sense!). I soak for about 20 minutes and then remove one parcel at a time. I've found that its still a bit of a struggle to remove the remainder of the polish though. Any tips from anyone else...?

3. I assume that your lamp could be used for other gels??? I use the Gellux led lamp.

I hope this helps :)

Thank you for your help really appreciate it, when u say seal the free edge do you mean when you go right to left or vise versa and then back down towards yourself ( if you understand!) as I do do this although it is quite hard on people with shorter nails.

Also I understand with the foils as I do use shiny side down too, perhaps I should leave on longer, I did try using more remover however so much product gets used this way that I will have to charge more.

I use the same Gellux lamp as you, how much do you charge? I charge £15 for full set and £20 for removal and gel reapplied

Thanks again x

I seal my free edge in the same way, makse sure you've not got too much polish on the brush so it is eaiser to work with.

I do two thin colour coats, not sure if your doing the same?

When removing I do use quite a bit of remover, during my training we were told to really soak the cotton pad.

I charge £21 per set and don't charge anymore if it is a removal and re-apply. However, if there is more than one client at the booking (I am mobile) I drop my prices slightly as its worth my while beacuse I'm already set up, also I find this encouraces the client to get a friend to have a set aswell because its cheaper.

For just removal I charge £11.

Hello

I'm a newbie to the forum, I've been doing Gellux since December I am also mobile, and have only been doing them on family and friends. I had problems taking them off aswell, when I trained I was told you can buy mits to put the clients hands in after foil wraps. As heat quickens the process. So I tried it with a hair dryer, and this works really well and is much esaier to take off.
The key is thin coats. Any tips on how I can build my clientele as I dont have many. Friends and family all want it for free.

Hope this makes sense.

I also have been using Gellux for some time now and find it really hard to remove, I have been using the foil wrap method and I even put heated wheat sacks wrapped in flannels over the nails to try and help but still have to remove a lot of the gel with an orange stick. I removed a new clients gels today and what a difference!!! they came of really easy after just 15 mins wrapped in foil with no heat, she had Jessica geleration last time so im starting to think a change in brand is in order. I do get a good 2 weeks plus out of Gellux and my clients are happy with them but after today I could really see a difference in the clients nails after removal and will be changing.

Thanks for all your help! I need advice on building clientel too! Xx

I agree that Gellux is a bugger to remove. I changed to Gelish as it's much easier. OPI Gelcolour is also good.

The trick is:

1. Thoroughly soak the wraps with remover. You can add cotton wool to the wraps, if required.

2. Use additional heat such as a wheat bag and make sure the heat is over the nails. Don't make the bag too hot though!

However, if you don't use enough solution, any added heat from a wheat bag or mitts will just evaporate the remover in the pads before it dissolves the gel.

I used to have same problem with gellux removal though since I've been adding extra heat it's been a breeze coming off. Good luck X

Hmmm... Debating whether or not to change brands now, I have brought the Gellux light and have all the gear so don't no if it's worth changing? Can I use the light on other methods or am I going to have to sell everything? DILEMMA!!!

If it's a 36W-UV light you use for Gellux you can use that with Gelish at least, not sure about other brands. You can also use all your sanitation, cleansers and such, at least until you have finished your batch!:p
