Hi I wondered if anyone could help me out. I have just taken on a lady who has been having acrylics at an nss for quite a few years now. She had been having l & p but said she would be happy to have gel as I don't offer l& p. I use calgel which I don't usually have any problems with. I applied her nails last Thursday and when I was doing them I noticed that her nails were paper thin. I advised her that she might encounter a few problems due to the fact that she is used to nss. Now she has text me to say that she has broken her thumb nail and that another one is split.
I am quite happy to go and repair them and I am going tomorrow.
I was just wondering if there is anything extra I can do??

I forgot to add that I kept them as short as poss and I advised her to solar oil twice a day

After that sort of treatment, and with such paper thin nails, nothing is going to stay put for long, whether it's l&p, gel, Shellac or nail polish.

She must accept that until a new nail has grown through completely (and that could be 5-6 months), her nails are going to be vulnerable and are going to have to be kept short and she will need very regular appointments with you.

Not sure there's anything else you can do. The solar oil will help but she won't really reap the benefits for a while when the stronger part of her nail is through.

Great answer form Blossom I would only add that you should encourage your client to work with you for that time period to restore her nails to a healthy state. I think 4 months will do it and I don't think it will take as long as 6 unless she has a very slow nail growth.

There could not be a better time to encourage your client to grow her own nails. The short, neat and well-groomed nail is IN and they will not look out of place at all.

She is going to get splits from time to time and breakages etc and she needs to expect that, but if you are a good technician and lok after her during this time, she will be yours forever at the end of it.

Both great answers thank you. It's kind of what I was expecting really. I will go through it all with her tomorrow. I found it quite shocking how thin her nails were, I pressed down on the nail bed and it was as thin as a rizla paper, just awful. Hopefully I can encourage her to stay with me and get her nails back to a healthy state. Thanks for your help x
