Just because I have a couple of questions and don't want to keep posting new threads.

Lash arrangement, what is your general pattern?
We were taught, one length all the way! But I have been putting 9's in the inner corner, J11's through out then if the client wishes a few longer ones on the ends.
I've just bought thicker ones, which is the best part of the eye to place these on?

Also, a client of mine couldn't come for infills for a few weeks so ended up having a full set and she was saying that her extensions have made her natural lashes shorter? I just wanted to laugh at her and say 'you daft cow, you've had extensions on - ofcourse they're going to seem shorter!' but I'm still relatively new to this so just said I'd look into it.
Is there any truth behind her claim that extensions actually make the natural lashes shorter?

Thanks for any help!
Xx

I dont think they make em shorter , she is so used to seeing her lashes full and long that she aint use to them .
I had extensions put in mine while I was training only about 10 in each eye and when they went I felt odd for about a week like I was naked , guess thats how you end up addicted to getting them x

No.....extensions can definitely NOT make the natural lash shorter! The are just attached to the natural lash and wont damage them unless the client doesnt look after them or picks at them but in that case the lashes would be pulled out (ouch!) so totally gone but not shorter!

How you arrange the lash extensions varies very much depending on what look your client wants to achieve. Generally you would use the shorter lashes towards the inner eye (nose) and the longer ones towards the corners but you also have to watch out how strong and healthy the natural lashes are in order to not overload the natural lash. Ie if your client has weak or very fine lashes you wouldnt be able to put the longest and thickest extensions on the lashes as the natural lash wouldnt be able to support the weight and she would lose the lashes prematurely which you want to avoid.

Hope this helps but please shout if you need anything else?

Thank you both for the replies.

I didn't think they would make them shorter! All her lashes are still there so she must just not be used to them. She has said herself she is now 'addicted' and can't be without them!

I've just realised, I've onlt been doing lash extensions for 2 months - I thought it was so much longer!! I guess I'm still learning and playing about with different variations :)

I did my training on Monday with the lovely Luisa from Flirties so I am very new to this but an old hand in the nail and beauty industry - 16 years in!

I intend to take a before photo of every client who will allow me to, this way I can show them if there is any problem later on that their lashes were really short to begin with.

You sometimes have the same type of problem with nail clients, they somehow forget that they had nail extensions in the first place because their nails were short and weak. I make a big deal of examining a new client's nails on their first visit, I get them to look carefully at their own nails and explain to me the problems they have and why they want new nails. I take down what they say in front of them on the client card. It is just to cover myself, not from being sued or anything daft but just as a backup if they ever comment on how 'weak' their nails are if they have the extensions off at any time. :D

Thanks Sheila! How are you enjoying lashes?
Luckily, this lady has been with me from the beginning so i do have a picture of her lashes... she wasn't complaining, but I would like to set her straight before she starts telling everyone else! Xx

Since we are not damaging the root of the lashes, this means that eyelashes will always grow the same as always. Doesn't matter is client has lash extensions on or not, they will continue re-generating regardless. Since the life cycle if one eyelash is 3 months (even if this visible eyelash is damaged by pulling of the fake eyelash - the new lash will grow back the same because the root is not damaged). Educate your clients about life cycle of lash and the fact that we do not damage roots and advice them against pulling out lashes as this can cause damage. People often forget how they natural eyelashes were - therefore taking a picture before eyelash extensions and after taking them off - client can see that they are the same as they were (providing she did not pick them off)
You are right in using different lengths as that provides most flattering results - with one lash size throughout you would not be able to achieve that. You can use thinner lashes towards inner corner and thicker towards outer corner

Yes, I think that's deffinately what I need to do! Thanks.
Also, if clients wear water-soluble mascara, what's the correct way to remove it? Xx
