Hi all,

I posted a thread about 2 wks ago as i have just started out as a nail tech after finishing my training and finding it rather daunting to be honest

I am having good days and bad at the moment i think , just wondered is this normal? i know im not going to be great right away but i really am trying and i want my clients to be happy with my work. i have has days where i find it a little harder and have little confidence in what im doing and then another day I will do a great set and be on top of the world.

I have little confidence in myself and i am really trying not to let it show and i dont think i am doing too bad on that front but there are things i need to improve on i.e lifting! the usual suspect. i do my prep according to my course and have read the tutorial on here but i just dont think i have got it right yet.

i guess i just wanted to know is this what it was like for you when you began. or is it something i should worry about. im trying real hard not to let it get to me and am going for some additional training with my friend who has been a tech for 7 years so she is experienced.

any advice, comments greatly recieved

thank you in advance

Becki xx

Its normal hun...

And...some nails are easier to do than others...so sometimes you do feel that some go better than others.

What kind of problems are you coming across...?

All perfectly normal hun in the beginning, it all clicks into place soon enough,
as well as your prep needing to be spot on,
you need to press the product into the nail plate with your brush as well as moving it up the length of the plate at the same time.
I don't doubt your friend who has been a tech for 7 years should be very good but a factor to take into account when letting other people teach you is when did she last take any training ?
if it was a few years ago then she could show you things that are old news now or even show you some bad habits,
i don't mean any offence to your friends kindness but you want to improve your skills, not go in a reverse direction hth

mainly lifting and just getting the shape of the nail right i am doing acrylic sculptured nails at the moment, just some i do i am really pleased and others i think oh dear, for my first month i have put my price really low to accomodate this but i just had a couple and think should i give them their money back, its only £10 for the set so i guess not but im not sure, im just getting used to taking money from people too

i think im making myself sound reeeeeealy awful here, considering ive just started i guess im not that bad I just have high expectations with nails and i really want to please people and give them something that they love, maybe im the problem getting ahead of myself, i just get so dissapointed when it doesnt go so well but it could be a plus point too??

Awww Beckih84 welcome to my world!!! :green:

I am in the same boat. I qualified from my gel training in April, and my L&P in May, but have not a lot of confidence in myself. I decided to bite the bullet and go for it, and so far so good, although im not really forcing my way out there, just taking custom as it comes.

I wouldnt let it get you down, hopefully you will have better back up from your tutors than I had, and if so use it to the max.

I think what I feel is that I dont have someone qualified to go and say "are they an good set of nails" - you know what I mean? Then I have days where I am over the moon with the set I have created, haha. :green:

Salon Geek is a saviour, although I dont really ask that many questions, the information gained from others' questions in fab!

Hi Becki:hug:

Don't beat yourself up about it hunny, we all had the same problems when we started out.
Just getting used to seeing all different types of nails, understanding how best to approach each new set etc is daunting enough in itself, and then trying to look confident & be knowledgeable when clients ask questions about this & that!
So, if lifting is an issue, which is quite normal in any new tech & some of us who've been at it a few years, is a problem (buit there may be other influences to look at for us old ones!)...give us a run down list of your complete prep routine, right up the just when you are ready to apply your product.....that way we can all see if there can be improvements made there to help you.
Then, once we've got that down to a fine art, we can look at your application, mix ratio, amount of thickness of product on the nail, apex placement etc. Don't panic!!!! Let's take it one step at a time. Prep is usually the main culprit of lifting in new techs.....so - lets have your procedure:hug:

Hi Becki
I finnished my course not that long ago and am just starting out. I feel the same way my nails keep lifting. Every time a client comes back with 1/2 a set or more missing i feel horrible.
I tell all my clients that i am still new to this and charge less then most do. I found this helps and they are very understanding when and if their nails lift or dont turn out exacly the way they hoped.
My sister has been organising some of her friends for me to practice on.
I am getting better slowly.

It dose help though to know others feel the same way

Good luck I am sure you will do well.
